[14:08] Serafina Puchkina: And welcome to anyone I missed
[14:08] Viv Trafalgar: Hello Ahnya!
[14:08] Linus Lacombe: Hello Ms Ahnya
[14:08] Satu Moreau blinks wide eyed at Star, gaping.
[14:08] Ceejay Writer: Starry Starry Girl... *sings*
[14:08] Beq Janus waves to Ahnya
[14:08] Ceejay Writer: Star, have you been visiting a gender surgeon?
[14:08] Stargirl Macbain: I was building, I wear a Male avi sometimes to keep the proportions right so men can walk through my doors :P
[14:09] Satu Moreau: Aaaah.

[14:09] Stargirl Macbain: Thank god I crippled star or I would have NO ao for this shape :P
[14:09] Annechen Lowey: Ah, so that is not normal, but only temporary.
[14:09] Beq Janus: last I heard, Star was a Kitteh. You can't trust rumours these days it seems
[14:09] Ceejay Writer: Professor Paperclip, I just saw you! *waves at her friend*
[14:09] Ahnyanka Delphin smiles up at the Baron and Frau Lowey.
[14:10] Stargirl Macbain is many things to many people.
[14:10] Bodhisatva Paperclip: Hello, Miss Writer :)
[14:10] Jedburgh30 Dagger: *clears throat*
[14:10] Jedburgh30 Dagger: Hello everyone! Ladies and Gentlemen, Viv, Serafina, Jasper and I are pleased to welcome you to the January edition of the Aether Salon - Diplomacy!. I would like to thank each and every one of you for joining us today.
[14:11] Jedburgh30 Dagger: As many of you know, the Aether Salon meets to discuss steam and Victorian topics on the third Sunday of each month, in Palisades and Academy, New Babbage. This is our 23th salon and I hope you are all as excited about being here today as I am.
[14:11] Jedburgh30 Dagger: Just a few matters of housekeeping before we get started. If you are standing in the back, please move forward onto the maze so that you can be assured of hearing the speaker. Please hold your questions until the end, and as a courtesy to all, please turn off everything that feeds the lag: all HUDs, scripts, AOs and so on. Please no weapons, non-Euclidean geometry, inflammatory rhetoric, or unapproved transmat devices. Your cooperation is appreciated.
[14:11] Jedburgh30 Dagger: Edited and unedited transcripts will be posted this week on aethersalon.blogspot.com so you can revisit today’s merriment, read transcripts of past salons, and for a laugh, peruse “overheard at the salon.” Please join the Aether Salon group and receive notifications of future salon events, click the lower right hand corner of the large brown sign by the entrance. We sincerely appreciate the support we receive from everyone in the community and we humbly thank you all.
[14:12] Jedburgh30 Dagger: Many fine people have contributed to today’s salon: We are grateful to Miss Canolli Capalini of Capalini Fine Furnishings for the wonderful salon chairs and to our own Mr. Jasper Kiergarten for his expertise in creating today’s craft. We appreciate all of you who have contributed to salon. As a reminder, all speakers' fund jar donations go directly to the speaker.
Now I will turn the stage over to Miss Viv for the introduction of today’s speaker. Viv?
[14:12] Viv Trafalgar grins
[14:12] Viv Trafalgar: Thank you all for coming
[14:12] Ahnyanka Delphin waves and blows a kiss to Viv!!
[14:13] Viv Trafalgar: Known throughout the civilized grid for his nation of Europa, his yen for exploration, and his way with Science, the Baron has made it his cause to instill diplomacy and free exchange between all the steamlands.
[14:13] Viv Trafalgar: His humor, generosity, and support for both the arts and culture is exceptional. He's also a fantastic dance partner, If we might say so without being too forward.
[14:13] Linus Lacombe: :-)
[14:13] Viv Trafalgar: His Vice Consul, Frau Lowey smooths the proverbial waters in many ways, and is also the hand behind the pen of numerous Primgraph and Prim Perfect articles.
[14:13] Viv Trafalgar: These include a host of helpful etiquette missives that I highly recommend.
[14:13] Viv Trafalgar: Her penchant for dance, building, science, and sociology is equalled by her ability to feel at home in many regions, including Steelhead, Caledon, and Winterfell, as well as Europa itself.
[14:14] Viv Trafalgar: Today's Salon has been sponsored by the Baron, and we cannot thank him and
[14:14] Viv Trafalgar: his Consul enough for their ongoing support - which has lasted two and a half years at this time
[14:14] Jimmy Branagh slips in quietly
[14:14] KlausWulfenbach Outlander bows from his seat
[14:14] Otenth Paderborn imagines bumper cars in these chairs.
[14:14] Viv Trafalgar: We consider them our friends and allies in our endeavour to bring you the best conversation in the steamlands
[14:15] Viv Trafalgar: And will always be intheir debt
[14:15] Viv Trafalgar: Without further ado ladies and gentlemen, the Aether Salon presents Diplomacy!
[14:15] Linus Lacombe: `*.¸.*´ APPLAUSE `*.¸.*´APPLAUSE `*.¸.*´
[14:15] Stereo Nacht: `*.¸.*´ APPLAUSE `*.¸.*´APPLAUSE `*.¸.*´
[14:15] Rhianon Jameson applauds
[14:15] Darlingmonster Ember applauds
[14:15] Eva Bellambi applauds
[14:15] Ahnyanka Delphin applauds and turns to look at the guests of honor.
[14:15] Annechen Lowey: Diplomacy: The art and practice of conducting negotiations between nations (particularly in securing treaties), including the methods and forms usually employed.
[14:15] Marion Questi applauds
[14:16] Solace Fairlady: applause
[14:16] Serafina Puchkina: Applauds
[14:16] Otenth Paderborn applauds
[14:16] Katykit Magic applauds politely
[14:16] Monkey Wirefly cheers
[14:16] Annechen Lowey: Diplomacy is dexterity or skill in securing advantages; tact.
[14:16] Sky Netizen applauds
[14:16] Annechen Lowey: All diplomacy is a continuation of war by other means.
[14:16] Annechen Lowey: All war represents a failure of diplomacy.
[14:17] Annechen Lowey: Diplomacy is to do and say The nastiest things in the nicest way.
[14:17] Jimmy Branagh whispers back "Hoy Tepic!"
[14:17] Annechen Lowey: Diplomacy is more than saying or doing the right things at the right time, it is avoiding saying or doing the wrong things at any time.
[14:17] Annechen Lowey: Diplomacy is the art of letting the other party have things your way.
[14:17] KlausWulfenbach Outlander: A diplomat is a person who can tell you to go to hell in such a way that you actually look forward to the trip.
[14:17] Rhianon Jameson chuckles
[14:17] Darlingmonster Ember smiles
[14:17] Linus LacombeLinus Lacombe snickers
[14:17] Ceejay Writer grins and commits these to memory.
[14:18] Sky Netizen grins
[14:18] KlausWulfenbach Outlander: As you can see, there's a wide variety of opinions on diplomacy. A more formal definition, from a popular source, is 'The representation and protection of the interests and nationals of the sending state, as well as the promotion of information and friendly relations.'
[14:18] KlausWulfenbach Outlander: Let us set out some more definitions from a respected dictionary, as I have found some small confusion in the use of diplomatic terminology:
An Ambassador is: 'an official envoy; especially: a diplomatic agent of the highest rank accredited to a foreign government or sovereign as the resident representative of his or her own government or sovereign or appointed for a special and often temporary diplomatic assignment'.
[14:18] Viv Trafalgar nods in expectation
[14:19] KlausWulfenbach Outlander: An Embassy is: 'a body of diplomatic representatives; specifically: one headed by an ambassador' and also, 'the function or position of an ambassador'.
[14:19] KlausWulfenbach Outlander: A Consul is: 'an official appointed by a government to reside in a foreign country to represent the commercial interests of citizens of the appointing country' This is descended from an Imperial Roman title, although the function has changed entirely.
[14:19] KlausWulfenbach Outlander: A Consulate is: 'the office, term of office, or jurisdiction of a consul' and also 'the... official premises of a consul'. In addition, 'A consulate is similar to (but not the same as) a diplomatic office, but with focus on dealing with individual persons and businesses.'
[14:19] Satu Moreau's ears perk, looking over to Miss Heinrichs.
[14:20] KlausWulfenbach Outlander: One might compare the relationship of an Ambassador and a Consul to that of a military ship's captain and his executive officer.
[14:20] KlausWulfenbach Outlander: The captain deals with external matters – communications of policy and practice with the ruler or his delegates, overall strategies and the unit's part in them.
[14:20] KlausWulfenbach Outlander: The executive officer looks inward, handling the crew, disseminating the local applications of the policies received from the captain and ensuring all unit resources are properly used and distributed to ensure the highest level of functioning possible.
[14:20] KlausWulfenbach Outlander: In that manner, a Ambassador deals with the desires and orders received from his ruler and negotiates on the highest level possible, dealing with the ponderous and far-reaching movements of kingdoms and principalities.
[14:21] Tepic Harlequin: an the Ambassadore has ter sink with his ship?
[14:21] KlausWulfenbach Outlander: Heh, at times.
[14:21] Darlingmonster Ember smiles
[14:21] KlausWulfenbach Outlander: The Consul, however, will ensure that tourists and expatriates have their correct paperwork intact; will start potential new citizens on the right path to their desired country; will maintain resources on business practices, police procedures, and other local matters.
[14:21] KlausWulfenbach Outlander: Let us now address some examples of diplomacy.
[14:22] KlausWulfenbach Outlander: The Vice Consul found this one example of a well-played hand – the aetheric address for the reproduction of the newspaper article is http://query.nytimes.com/mem/archive-free/pdf?res=F00D17F63F5D1A7493C3A8178AD85F478784F9
[14:22] Annechen Lowey: You may read it at your leisure, of course, but the gist of the matter is that Austria found themselves bound by an unpleasant commercial situation which was causing hardship to its citizenry.
[14:22] Annechen Lowey: The ambassador, after a dint of hard research, found a trade clause which allowed him to not only remove the hardship, but in effect punish the extortionistic behaviour of France.
[14:22] Annechen Lowey: An example of diplomatic ties assisting in war: during the French & Indian War:
[14:23] Annechen Lowey: French soldiers, aided by 200 Abenaki, Pennacook, Kanien`kehaka, and Wendat soldiers on snowshoes launched a surprise attack on the village of Deerfield, which was the northwestern frontier of the New England colonies.
[14:23] Annechen Lowey: The French and Indian force quickly retreated to Canada with their captives, many of whom never returned. The English forces did not have snowshoes, and were unable to overtake the invading forces.
[14:23] Annechen Lowey: The attack was a triumph of diplomacy and military strategy for the French. They had forged alliances with the Native nations, and by adopting a Native American technology (i.e. snowshoes), they succeeded in moving large numbers of men 300 miles through the snow.
[14:23] Annechen Lowey: A reknowned failure of diplomacy in one documentable future is that of the Shōwa imperial reign in Japan.
[14:24] Annechen Lowey: The Emperor and his court, emboldened by their national success in adapting to European influences without losing national identity, moved to impose a 'Co-Prosperity Sphere' uniting the Asian countries 'the eight corners of the world' under the rule of the Japanese Emperor. The failure came in that all the time convincing the Japanese people about the gloriousness of this concept was time not spent in convincing the rest of the 'Sphere' of the same –
[14:24] Annechen Lowey: - and as a result, the Japanese participated in wars and atrocities for almost two decades, only stopping on becoming an occupied country for the first time in its history.
[14:24] Annechen Lowey: As seen by the recent unauthorized release of diplomatic documents, diplomats are still humans, and subject to the same faults as all other humans.
[14:25] Annechen Lowey: They can have unpopular opinions, and unconsidered moments.
[14:25] Annechen Lowey: The effects of the exposure of these faults range from acute embarrassment to possible damage of international relations.
[14:25] Rhianon Jameson gently harumphs
[14:25] Annechen Lowey: Thus there will always be diplomatic secrets.
[14:26] Annechen Lowey: Some more embarrassing than others.
[14:26] Viv Trafalgar raises an eyebrow
[14:26] Annechen Lowey: While some of these secrets may become the seed for jovial anecdotes years later, many will be changed by the intervening years.
[14:26] Jedburgh30 Dagger: Zimmerman
[14:26] KlausWulfenbach Outlander: At home, diplomacy is... not as effective.
[14:26] KlausWulfenbach Outlander: For those not familiar with the history of my Europa, the local rulers are, more often than not, Sparks.
[14:27] KlausWulfenbach Outlander: With the Spark comes madness, and those Sparks who survive their first great creation are not necessarily the most rational of rulers.
[14:27] KlausWulfenbach Outlander: I have, in truth, suppressed border disputes based on 'He looked at me funny,' and 'She insulted my newest creation.'
[14:27] Viv Trafalgar: !
[14:27] Ceejay Writer giggles.
[14:27] Elleon Bergamasco: ohh dear...
[14:28] Annechen Lowey nods sadly.
[14:28] Mothercard Warden: Hear, hear
[14:28] KlausWulfenbach Outlander: In situations such as those, the best technique has proven to be not calm, rational negotiation, but smothering force until they stop struggling and can be taken away to calm down. Only then, after they return from their 'time-outs', can we begin the rational negotiation phase.
[14:28] Solace Fairlady whispers "Welcome back Miss random"
[14:28] Rhianon Jameson laughs
[14:28] Random Wezzog smiles.
[14:28] Jimmy Branagh chuckles
[14:28] KlausWulfenbach Outlander: Possibly.
[14:28] Bodhisatva Paperclip nods
[14:29] Eleanor Anderton waves to Miss LillieJay
[14:29] KlausWulfenbach Outlander: Diplomacy on the grid is yet another matter.
[14:29] KlausWulfenbach Outlander: The usual resorts of failed negotiation – sanctions, siege, full-out war – are not as functional here as they are in other circumstances. When most punitive or hostile acts can be subverted by sitting or removing oneself entirely from not just the area but the grid itself, diplomacy gains greatly in value for dispute resolution, but even more for benign interaction.
[14:30] KlausWulfenbach Outlander: Diplomacy has led to greater exchanges of information, of greater participation at events, and a greater selection of events possible.
[14:30] KlausWulfenbach Outlander: Consider New Babbage's recent Fleet Week, where the biggest prizes were evenly distributed between the Steamlands.
[14:30] KlausWulfenbach Outlander: A nation bound by isolationism would not have had such excellent competition and challenge.
[14:30] Jedburgh30 Dagger: smiles broadly
[14:30] KlausWulfenbach Outlander: Channels opened by even casual diplomacy provide quick exchanges of information, such as reports of griefing to allow for proactive bans to protect as yet unafflicted lands.
[14:31] Darlingmonster Ember: nods
[14:31] Viv Trafalgar: hear hear
[14:31] KlausWulfenbach Outlander: They allow for less troublesome exchanges, such as clarifications of changes from the Lab, or new devices that make tedious matters less vexing.
[14:31] KlausWulfenbach Outlander: Diplomacy has led to the expansion of the Imperial Bank of Steeltopia to cross the waters to Cala Mondrago, where the bank itself faces the Magistrate's tower in the middle of the market district.
[14:31] KlausWulfenbach Outlander: The system on which it runs was originated in Antiquity, which has a burgeoning internal economy based on a non-linden currency.
[14:32] KlausWulfenbach Outlander: On a more intimate scale, diplomacy can be used between a peacekeeper or an experienced citizen to resolve issues of an inexperienced person accidentally littering a common area, using weapons inappropriately, or even merely miscommunicating by means of gestures, actions or phrasings which violate common customs.
[14:32] KlausWulfenbach Outlander: In some areas, this might involve the wearing of a health meter (or not), or a matter as simple as inappropriate dress causing an upset.
[14:32] KlausWulfenbach Outlander: A calm voice and a ready ear can negotiate a peaceful resolution instead of resorting to official reports.
[14:32] Annechen Lowey: When the Consulate was founded in 2007 (Linden Era), the mission was fairly simple. We endeavored to aid the new residents from home to assimilate to the grid. In doing so, we needed to learn the laws, customs and traditions of the various Steamlands.
[14:33] Satu Moreau smiles.
[14:33] LillieJay Mills waves back to Miss Eleanor
[14:33] Annechen Lowey: However, many things have changed in the years since. The Steamlands have expanded (in some cases explosively), then the Openspace crisis altered the landscape considerably. Old lands have faded into the mists, and been replaced by new lands with brave new views.
[14:33] Annechen Lowey: Along with the Steamlands, the mission of the Consulate has changed. The job has developed to include many aspects of an embassy, though not specifically for Europa. In some ways the staff have become unofficial ambassadors for inter-simulator relations.
[14:33] Breezy Carver smiles
[14:33] Annechen Lowey: Rather than limiting our actions to aiding the individual emigres to the grid and private concerns of commercial nature, we have endeavoured to increase awareness of the citizens of the broad spectrum of city-states and micronations of Second Life.
[14:34] Annechen Lowey: To that end, besides the offices we have in several states, we have supported endeavors such as the Aether Chrononauts Calendar project and the Steamlander forums, hoping to encourage intersimulator cooperation and dialogue.
[14:34] Annechen Lowey: Part of that mission has been the Grand Tours, identifying people who might host stops on the tour, assisting those who have not participated previously, and in one fit of madness, conducting a Tour ourselves.
[14:34] Annechen Lowey: I never said diplomacy *always* made sense.
[14:34] Rhianon Jameson smiles
[14:34] KlausWulfenbach Outlander: To sum up, diplomacy attempts to solve, by means of reasonable discussion and fair compromise, issues of trade, cultural exchange and land use, on a scale from between two individuals to that of several countries.
[14:34] Breezy Carver smiles
[14:35] Annechen Lowey: The goal is to gain the cooperation of all parties involved to the good of all parties.
[14:35] Annechen Lowey: Thank you for letting us rattle on this afternoon.
[14:35] KlausWulfenbach Outlander raises an eyebrow
[14:35] Eva Bellambi smiles
[14:35] Viv Trafalgar applauds
[14:35] Viv Trafalgar: it was hardly rambling!
[14:35] Jimmy Branagh give a thumbs up.
[14:35] Darlingmonster Ember: hardly
[14:36] Stereo Nacht: `*.¸.*´ APPLAUSE `*.¸.*´APPLAUSE `*.¸.*´
[14:36] Darlingmonster Ember applauds
[14:36] Jimmy applauds
[14:36] Solace Fairlady applauds
[14:36] Linus Lacombe: `*.¸.*´ APPLAUSE `*.¸.*´APPLAUSE `*.¸.*´
[14:36] Otenth Paderborn: I assure you, Herr Baron, I have never heard your loose screw rattle.
[14:36] Marion Questi applauds
[14:36] Bodhisatva Paperclip: Very interesting and well put
[14:36] Viv Trafalgar: Welcome to all who have joined us - we will begin questions in just a moment -
[14:36] Serafina Puchkina applauds
[14:36] Elleon Bergamasco applauds
[14:36] Tepic Harlequin: verr interestun, it were...
[14:36] Random Wezzog applauds.
[14:36] KlausWulfenbach Outlander snorts, amused
[14:36] Rowan Derryth applauds
[14:36] Breezy Carver: ✰·.·´` Claps Very Loudly!! ´`·.·✰
[14:36] Jimmy Branagh: Hoooo!
[14:36] Kimika Ying: applause!
[14:36] Liam Bean applauds
[14:36] Darlingmonster Ember applauds
[14:36] Rhianon Jameson applauds
[14:36] Solace Fairlady: Bravo!
[14:36] Solace Fairlady Hooooooooos!!!
[14:36] Jimmy applauds
[14:36] Otenth Paderborn applauds.
[14:36] Beq Janus applauds
[14:36] Jimmy applauds
[14:36] KlausWulfenbach Outlander bows from his seat
[14:36] Annechen Lowey nods.
[14:37] Jedburgh30 Dagger: I think we'll now entertain questions for the speakers, please don't blurt out, and we'll get to them in turn
[14:37] Tepic Harlequin: time fer me bed, i thinks, thanks Barron, Miss :-)
[14:37] Linus Lacombe raises a hand
[14:37] KlausWulfenbach Outlander: Gute Nacht, Tepic.
[14:37] Viv Trafalgar: Before anyone goes
[14:37] Jimmy Branagh: Noight Tepic! Slepp well!
[14:37] Jedburgh30 Dagger: Mr Lacombe?
[14:37] Annechen Lowey nods.
[14:37] Linus Lacombe: Is a plenipotentary (spelling?) a diplomatic official, and if so what is the role of that position in diplomacy?
[14:38] KlausWulfenbach Outlander: Ah. There are many possible variations in diplomatic titles and applications, depending on the originating culture and how the mission is constructed.
[14:39] Annechen Lowey: It is rare that you will find a diplomat with full powers as a plenipotentary, in modern times.
[14:39] Annechen Lowey: Mostly because of the speed of communication.
[14:39] KlausWulfenbach Outlander: It is not a title in itself, but a modifier.
[14:39] Annechen Lowey: However, it is not entirely unheard of.
[14:40] Jedburgh30 Dagger: One thing I need to do as a matter of business, before any additional questions...
[14:40] KlausWulfenbach Outlander: An Ambassador Plenipotentiary could set foreign policy for his government.
[14:40] Jedburgh30 Dagger: Please make sure you all come back for the February Salon on the 20th.
[14:41] Rhianon Jameson gets out her calendar and a small pen and jots a note
[14:41] Jedburgh30 Dagger: Our topic will be Romance!, and our speaker will be the lovely Lady of Skye, the Duchess Eva Bellambi
[14:41] Linus Lacombe waves to Ms Widdershins
[14:41] Eva Bellambi smiles
[14:41] Linus Lacombe: Thank you for your answer, Frau Lowey, Herr Baron
[14:41] KlausWulfenbach Outlander nods
[14:42] Bodhisatva Paperclip: !!!
[14:42] Jedburgh30 Dagger: Are there any more questions?
[14:42] Ceejay Writer waves to her intrepid boss.
[14:42] KlausWulfenbach Outlander: Surely there are more questions out there.
[14:42] KlausWulfenbach Outlander: Any volunteers for the foreign service?
[14:42] Viv Trafalgar chuckles
[14:42] Jedburgh30 Dagger: I have one..
[14:42] Saffia Widdershins waves back discreetly
[14:43] Ceejay Writer starts to raise her hand then drops it.
[14:43] Jimmy Branagh raises his hand for a question, not for foreign service
[14:43] Rhianon Jameson envisions Jimmy in the foregin service and smiles
[14:43] Breezy Carver raises hand ..
[14:43] KlausWulfenbach Outlander: Fraulein Dagger?
[14:43] Stereo Nacht: (I think Miss Writer had a question... correct?)
[14:43] Jedburgh30 Dagger: Have there been any times where the ambassador has had to step in when the consul has been "out of their depth"?
[14:43] Annechen Lowey nods, "Jimmy's already been in service."
[14:43] Breezy Carver: hello Rose and smiles :)
[14:43] Ceejay Writer: (No, I was thinking about foreign service!)
[14:43] Rose Springvale: smiles and tries to rez...
[14:44] Stereo Nacht: (Ah, sorry!)
[14:44] KlausWulfenbach Outlander: Ahh... bitte, I should need more context. Here, or at home, or...?
[14:44] Annechen Lowey: Hm, since they have different spheres, more of the modern offices do not have overlap.
[14:44] Jedburgh30 Dagger: More with your own folks, as an example..
[14:44] Annechen Lowey eyebrows at the Baron.
[14:45] KlausWulfenbach Outlander: In the case of the Europan Consular Mission, I am my own boss.
[14:45] KlausWulfenbach Outlander grins
[14:45] Viv Trafalgar: well answered sir
[14:45] Eva Bellambi: Always a good thing. :)
[14:45] Annechen Lowey hides a grin.
[14:45] Jimmy Branagh raises his hand again
[14:45] Viv Trafalgar: I have a question -
[14:45] Eva Bellambi: .
[14:45] KlausWulfenbach Outlander: Due to the inconveniences of the interdimensional gateway, full diplomacy is not possible - but the functions of a Consulate are more appropriate.
[14:45] KlausWulfenbach Outlander: I have never had to clean up after myself.
[14:46] Jedburgh30 Dagger: Jimmy, then Viv
[14:46] Rhianon Jameson giggles
[14:46] Breezy Carver laughs
[14:46] Jimmy Branagh: For Herr Baron an' Frau Lowey both. Do you foind it more effective an' long-lastin' ta negotiate from a position of power, or from a position of correctness on th' issue?
[14:46] Viv Trafalgar: oh Jimmy - you go - I'm getting all sorts of strangeness from my connection
[14:46] KlausWulfenbach Outlander: Fraulein Writer was almost next, care to reconsider Fraulein?
[14:46] Annechen Lowey studies the architecture...
[14:46] Stereo Nacht: Heh. You have always been very strict on lab rules... ;-)
[14:46] KlausWulfenbach Outlander: Power here is difficult to grasp.
[14:46] Ceejay Writer grins. "No, no question, still pondering the foreign stuff!"
[14:46] Serafina Puchkina: good question, Jimmy
[14:46] KlausWulfenbach Outlander: It is far more subtle than at home. It is more a matter of reputation and influence.
[14:47] Annechen Lowey: There is always the question of proper application of power, as well.
[14:47] KlausWulfenbach Outlander: Correctness has rarely come into play here.
[14:47] Breezy Carver raises hand
[14:47] Mothercard Warden: How about bribing (Ehrm)
[14:47] Jedburgh30 Dagger: Breezy?
[14:48] KlausWulfenbach Outlander: One moment, Lady Breezy. Emperor SteelCobra has sent chocolate and gold, it has no impression.
[14:48] Breezy Carver smiels and thank you Jed :)
[14:48] Satu Moreau chuckles.
[14:48] Mothercard Warden: Grins
[14:48] Ceejay Writer burst out laughing then claps her hands over her mouth.
[14:48] KlausWulfenbach Outlander: Lady Breezy.
[14:48] Katykit Magic perks up at chocolate
[14:48] Annechen Lowey: What chocolate?
[14:48] KlausWulfenbach Outlander: He ate it.
[14:48] Breezy Carverr grins now you mentioned you like to welcome the new .. yes ?
[14:48] Annechen Lowey: Ah.
[14:49] KlausWulfenbach Outlander: I suppose that could be said. I have always been fond of exploration.
[14:49] Breezy Carver: how about say .. older residence that are not around as much but then seem to return ?
[14:49] KlausWulfenbach Outlander raises an eyebrow questioningly
[14:49] Annechen Lowey: We do try to assist new residents, when it is applicable.
[14:49] Breezy Carver: do you reach out to them as well and try to include them to join :)
[14:50] KlausWulfenbach Outlander: We have an open group for emigres and fellow-travellers; the staff group is for those who intend to be put to work.
[14:50] Breezy Carver: sort getting all to mix so to speak :) ?
[14:50] Annechen Lowey: It is difficult to identify them - but there is always the possibility that the resident who is three years old, has only spent five hours on the grid.
[14:50] KlausWulfenbach Outlander: I should like to commend my Liaisons here, Herr Jimmy Branagh and Fraulein Bookworm Hienrichs.
[14:51] Breezy Carver: yes .. or ones that used to spend time on the grid take breaks perhaps .. isnt it important for them to know they are still welcomed ?
[14:51] Jimmy Branagh bows from the chair, as standing up is difficult.
[14:51] Breezy Carver: just thinking .. as this just popped into my head as you were speaking :)
[14:51] KlausWulfenbach Outlander: Lady Breezy, bitte, be more direct. Are you referring to a specific person?
[14:51] Annechen Lowey: Yes, it is. If they ask for help.
[14:51] Breezy Carver: no just in general
[14:51] Breezy Carver: nothing that exciting SIr
[14:52] Breezy Carver: ah they have to ask .. gotcha ! :)
[14:52] Breezy Carver: thank you :)
[14:52] KlausWulfenbach Outlander: I have a long memory, and welcome those I have not seen recently.
[14:52] Annechen Lowey: Just because someone four years old walks like a duck does not mean they are new, you see. :)
[14:52] Jimmy Branagh laughs
[14:52] Mothercard Warden: Hehehe
[14:52] Serafina Puchkina: Wise, very wise
[14:52] Annechen Lowey: Some people make the choice.
[14:53] Stereo Nacht reminds herself again to check her walk...
[14:53] Jedburgh30 Dagger: Do we have nay other questions?
[14:53] Annechen Lowey: However, I try to maintain contacts with the places to get started, as well as the places an older resident who is new to the Steamlands may need to know.
[14:54] KlausWulfenbach Outlander looks around the audience
[14:55] Jasper Kiergarten: if there are no more questions, I'll put out the craft
[14:55] Serafina Puchkina: What is the craft for today, Jasper?
[14:55] KlausWulfenbach Outlander: Frau Lowey asked me earlier if we were going to have any graphical displays.
[14:55] KlausWulfenbach Outlander: I pointed out that showing pictures of 500-page treaties was rather dull.
[14:55] Breezy Carver: big smile sorry was .. dealing with ims asking .. who i am asking about .. No one it was am ramdom question :)
[14:55] Ceejay Writer: Brace for trolley.....
[14:55] Stereo Nacht tries very hard to refrain a comment that may not be completely in subject...
[14:55] Jimmy Branagh turns to look
[14:56] Serafina Puchkina chuckles at the Baron's observation
[14:56] Jasper Kiergarten: todays' craft is a high quality diplomatic pen and bottle of ink
[14:56] Jedburgh30 Dagger: Ooooh, Craft
[14:56] Beq Janus: diplomacy and trolleys has never mixed well
[14:56] Rose Springvale loves treatises...
[14:56] Jimmy Branagh: Yay!
[14:56] Linus Lacombe: oh lovely craft!
[14:56] KlausWulfenbach Outlander watches Fraulein Stereo's face grow red from the pressure.
[14:56] Breezy Carver: ohh lovely
[14:56] Jimmy Branagh: Oy need a new pen.

[14:56] Annechen Lowey: The trolleys are singulary unipressed by diplomatic overtures.
[14:56] Rhianon Jameson: I second Miss Writer's characterization - toys!
[14:56] Serafina Puchkina: Miss Nacht?
