Virtuosity! Salon (Edited transcript)

Baron Klaus Wulfenbach: Guten Abend, everyone. The Time Travellers' Ball has attracted a large crowd, so we may have fewer on hand today.
Herr Kondor will receive the contents of the tipjar after Questions and Answers at the end of his presentation. Bitte, show your appreciation as you can.

Steadman Kondor: Thank you everyone, it is wonderful to see you all here.
Firstly I want to thank the Aether Salon for inviting me to speak today. This is definitely going to be a highlight of my second life career as a photographer/artist.

Firstly I would like to explain what I titled this talk Virtuosity. ‘Flights of Virtuosity’ is the name I gave to a collection of my SL photography exhibited at the 2010 World Science Fiction convention. *Virtuosity* alludes to my artworks' origin in the virtual world. *Virtuosity* alludes to the notion of virtuoso, the effort and commitment it took to express what was a ‘flight of the imagination’. Lastly, *Virtuosity* also expresses the purity of vision, expression and emotion that I aspire to in my photography. (interchangeably I call them my art)

When I was first rezzed in SL, just over four years ago, my Typist had no design qualifications, limited skills and experience. However, since then I have been fortunate enough to enjoy artistic recognition beyond my hopes and wildest expectations:

I exhibited alongside Oscar winner artist Shaun Tan at the 2010 World Science-Fiction convention in Melbourne, Australia. The next year, I was accepted by jury to exhibit at the World Fantasy Convention in San Diego alongside professional artists and illustrators. (The guests of honour were Neil Gaiman and Peter S. Beagle). My poster 'Meet Your Muse in New Babbage' won a poster competition organised by Marion Questi and has since been hanging in Caledon Oxbridge. Then Mayor Tenk posed for me in Clockhaven, as part of my secret project, a series of avatar portraits titled Unreal Avatar. He liked the final result so much it is used for his profile pix and the complimentary picture I sent him hangs in City Hall. So much for secret project! This year, my poster for the Carnivale d'Lunatiques was featured in the Second Life Editor's destination picks.

You might have noticed how many of my highlights are New Babbage connected. I didn’t specifically single out NB highlights. This is testament to how wonderful this city has been for encouragement and fostering of creativity.

This talk is an examination and reflection of my journey as an artist, from novice to recognition, and I hope you will find it an entertaining account. Maybe this will inspire some of the budding artists and photographers to persist and make advancements in their own creative journey.

My typist never planned for me to be a graphic artist, when I was born in March, 2008. He has a degree in literature and then later, computer science. His ambition is to be fiction author. SL began as an exciting means of exploring Victorian fantasy, one of the genres he was writing in. Then he discovered steampunk and joined the Steamlands community.

Roleplaying as a Victorian Publisher was a natural step. I set up Steadman Kondor Publishing and wrote whimsical Walking Guides (with streetmaps) for Victoriana and Steelhead. My Typist had basic photoshopping and design skills, with only some experience cropping RL photographs and creating profile pictures for Livejournal. After I published the walking guides, I brought out a collection of Robert Burns poetry, From A Mouse To A Louse, which include three poems liberally ‘reinterpreted’ by me. My photography and graphic work was functional from the start. I designed simple business logo’s, book covers and posters for vendorboards.

I encourage the budding artists among you to consider creating SL art in terms of ‘solving problems’. This is a concept I am stealing from Isaac Assimov, who when asked about how he wrote, he explained it as lots of thinking and problem solving. (no magic key to writing success) The graphic problems that I worked on solving included: cropping and turning a photo of a sim into a square shape; carefully laying out street names, choosing fonts; choosing contrasting yet complementary colours;and dealing with multiple layers on a photoshop file.

2009 - I was recruited to start Victoriana Times. It was an exciting time, writing and preparing the photographs for five short articles a week. I enjoyed the interaction with residents that being an editor/journalist entailed. (i'm a chatterbox as some of you might know) I had no idea how to make clothes or create animations, but I enjoyed taking photographs for events. I dubbed them 'society photographs'. you know, like socialites snapped going out for the night? No clothesmaking or pose-making required. The modus operandi were: keep my graphic resolution high, pay attention to all the guests, and zoom in and out looking for the million dollar shot. it's like hunting season! And in the meantime have fun at the event. Some of them are on the blue/green board to my right, behind miss rosca. In the middle row, you see a progression of newspaper cover shots. One of my favourite is the one in the middle, which i nickname 'Beauty and the Beast'

Sometimes I have been the backup or stand-in for preparing posters advertising social events. But my skills were not up-to-par, and I stood waiting in the wings.

But no matter. In addition to my newspaper work, I opened Galerie Eichen. I made replica's of ancient oriental porcelain, and curated an exhibition of Japanese screen prints. Some japanese plate from the Edo period, and also Song and Ming dynasty vasesI exhibited the works of Caspar David Friedrich, and turned it into an SL book by mashing (a modern DJ term) it with the poetry of Emily Bronte. In a way it is reusing, but I thought it was fun to cross polinate one project with another. I was thrilled to curate the artworks (scenic and nude series) of Miss Tali Rosca, renaissance cat skilled in the graphical arts, building, mesh-making and the highest calibre scripting, whom I'm glad to see with us here. Her nudes in particular were inspiring in how they showed dramatic shadow work, before Viewer 2 even. Later on, when Miss Rosca joined me in Caledon Mayfair, she would advise me on finer technical points of graphic design as I finished my first mature art works. From her I learned to focus on the composition and cropping, and the harmonising of colours.

In the meantime, I had a new project developing low prim Victorian houses from RL pictures in my Typist’s neighbourhood. My photoshopping skills were expanded as I doctored the photographs before they were uploaded them to SL. Some of these townhouses are in miss panacea's new york sims. She bought 10 of them but i never put them out to the market.

By 2010 I had a quarter sim in Caledon Mayfair. I built a town hall to display art and sculptures, but I had little original art. My best works, the society photographs, didn’t cut the mustard for a town hall exhibition. Traffic was low and later I left the idea. For the New Babbage RFL, Wishing Oil Well theme, I volunteered and built a replica of the Carrington Mooring Tower for airships.

This is to give an idea how I interspersed building with photography, but to convey that a lot of skills in my art, i had developed through solving building texture problems.

In May 2010, a creative watershed happened. I started to work on several horror-themed compositions which came to be exhibited at the 2010 World Science Fiction convention. Two of these are on the green board - my Paper Cranes and Walpurgisnacht Dance (incidentally originating from an SL event). My papercranes was inspired by an SL asylum sim, very spooky. Walpurgisnacht dance you might recognise Mr Eclipse and Miss Elladriene Laval. Mr. Otenth Paderborn was somewhere in the b/ground, and I surgically removed him. This is an example of how during an event, you can get stills of av's in motion, that seems more spontaneous than in a posed picture.

Towards the end of 2010, my Typist visited Tokyo and Kyoto. When he returned, I set up the Tokaido Gallery in Steelhead Shanghai to host the RL pictures. I applied different stylistic touches to them with skills learned from manipulating SL photographs. (and building in SL) I also shot some Japanese themed photographs in the SL Kyoto to add to the exhibition. The combination of the japanese teahouse build, and the RL and SL pictures, mand the media of music and videos... makes this i think my most complete SL project to date. I hope to aspire to this in future exhibitions, combining the art and gallery build, and other media.

In Mayfair I had explored the notion of a ruined watermill build being the venue to exhibit paintings of a gothic theme too. If I may refer you to the picture of the dancing Maiko at the back on the green board. Some of my art is highly processed and filtered, and a lot of posing, avatar design and doctoring. Sometimes I am happy with just a simple spontaneous shot. Here I captured my friend Mimi-san dancing. Her wonderful outfit and appearance is the centre of attention here, and her graceful hand placement. Also the lantern on the top right, as delicate and pretty as her.

If I were to list some of the technical photoshopping skills used in my art, it would be as follows: Can you manipulate light/contrast to properly define your subject? Can you correct colour saturation or use it to effect to unify colour schemes not in harmony? Can you crop a raw shot for an interesting composition? Sometimes I can take up to 100 shots for one picture. Can you perform pixel surgery? Repair, combine two graphics seamlessly? Stretch and distort or straighten...?

For printing to RL, a whole heap of new challenges come in - photographing raw shots with high resolution, correcting pixellation bugs. The SL viewer used to have a bug depicting water with higher than 3000 pixel length resolution. I think that is fixed now - I always ran into problems then with landscapes. Adjusting exposure to address the translation of a screen image to printed. The screen is always illuminated, while in RL lighting in a gallery room can vary. Sometimes it is very poor.

Outside of photoshop skills, as an artist, you need to have an inquisitive mind to investigate your subjects and areas of interest. For me it helps that as a writer, I can overlay a picture with themes and meanings that you don't necessarily need to know to appreciate, but it could be there as a subconscious message. You also need to have good avatar design skills not only for the runway model perfection of male and female beauty, but also for character and variety.

I have Miss Rosca as my friend and mentor. She is very good at pointing out defects my artwork that I have overlooked. Sometimes I dread showing things to her unless I'm very very brave. I also have my good friend nichus Bermann, who offers honesty and enthusiasm in his feedback. Being a writer who has participated in critique workshops, I have learned to take all feedback, good and bad, and trust my own judgment on how to act on them. You can't please everyone, and the most important is to please yourself... Your friends may mostly say nice things, so it is good to balance that with critics who can give impartial feedback.

Thank you for your attention. I am ready to take questions now. Perhaps there might be a painting from the board you'd like me to discuss further, and that's okay too.

Bookworm Hienrichs raises her hand for a question.
Steadman Kondor: Yes, miss hienrichs?
Bookworm Hienrichs: How did you pick up your more technical skills--for instance, in Photoshop? Trial and error? More formal classes? Tips from people you know?
Steadman Kondor: I'm not embarressed to say I use a paired down version of Photoshop, lol
Bookworm Hienrichs: Photoshop Elements?
Steadman Kondor: First there was photoshop deluxe, and then elements
Bookworm Hienrichs chuckles. "I've got Elements, too. Still don't know a lot about it, though."
Steadman Kondor: I have found them intuitive. and Ocassionally i refer to the web help. I learned them gradually though, over nearly 4 years
Jimmy Branagh: You might consider GIMP as well. I use it more than I do PS.
Steadman Kondor: So just spending time to play with each new feature is good for the long run. Things that proved useful were the template cookie cutting, also the brushes ...
Bookworm Hienrichs smiles wryly.
Steadman Kondor: I might take an official photoshop class one day ( i am lazy...) but elements is more than enough at the present and it is only one of other important aspects of creating SL art. The most important is feeling, and to really know and love your subject.

Tali Rosca: Have you (in some projects) deliberately tried to emulate a certain style or artist? Or are you always going with your own vision?
Steadman Kondor: I cant say anything comes to mind miss rosca, but i do visit galleries a lot, especially when i am on holidays. The japanese prints really inspired me too - their simplicity. William Blake perhaps is an influence as well--noting that he is a poet as well as illustrator/artist.Steadman Kondor: miss bulmer?
Glorf Bulmer: How important do you consider the uniquecreative possibilities of SL itslef? The abilitiy to construct settings in a way which is, as they say, Not Possible in RL?
Steadman Kondor: well I have some art of gargoyles.. lol. And also in the Unreal Avatar series, you see the one of the Mayor and Miss rosca. My goal is to explore the boundaries of real/unreal with the avatars, to balance the humanity and character of the avatar, with the fact that it is an illusio (the mesh lines). Certainly with avatar design, you can transcend what's possible in RL
Tali Rosca doesn't really need to be in wireframe to be not-possible-in-RL :-)
Steadman Kondor: It is possible i do more 3d types of art in the future. Stay tuned to this space :)
Glorf Bulmer nods: "one of the things that always interested me about SL art was the big installation builds, wehre you are *inside* the artwork and can interact with the artists imagination... internally, as it werer."
Steadman Kondor: Yes, that kind of art inspires me too. I enjoy machinima, but i tend to enjoy the stills, and the big installation builds more, as a general, but also there is the philosophy that less is more. Sometimes with just a few elements, you can suggest an entire world and culture. Just like with a poem, you can suggest an entire universe, and it's all in the viewer's mind! You do all the wonderful / hard work.
Tali Rosca: Yet your pictures seem to be fairly "complete". Not fragments the viewer then have to reconstruct and interpret.
Steadman Kondor: Perhaps, but your completion of the world may be different to mine, or others?
Glorf Bulmer: But, to some extent, the viewer's interpretive mind is always a factor - Jorge Luis Borges used to say that the reader was just as important as the writer....
Steadman Kondor: but i'm glad you find them so. Or roland barthes = the author is dead. But hehe i'm not dead yet!
Rhianon Jameson: Mr. Borges was a smart cookie.

Steadman Kondor: any more questions?
Tali Rosca: Given that I have seen the avatar Mr. Kondor wore for a recent shoot, I am not so sure...
Steadman Kondor: oh.. zombie grandma... would anyone like to see zombie grandma?
Steadman Kondor: it's something more recent i've worked on - a bit more gruesome. My favourite commentary on this is, "I made the doily"
Tali Rosca: Oh, I see you changed the pose!
Steadman Kondor: I'm interested to hear whether ppl see this as a depressing or uplifting picture...
Darlingmonster Ember: the cat lived.... uplifting
Steadman Kondor: i think i have a lot of feeling for the subject, it's been in my mind a long time. Sl allowed me to express it and say so much without a single word. The cat lived, but loves the owner so much, cant bear to feast on her
Glorf Bulmer recalls Robert Bloch....
Steadman Kondor: see also how the painting is lightly glowing - a photoshop effect, and also a separate prim which allows you to zoom in with more detail. The painting within the painting, I mean
Tali Rosca: That is actually a curious idea I'll have to work with now!
Steadman Kondor: The inclusion of the room corner is something I learned from Miss rosca for perspective
Tali Rosca: A smaller prim inside each version, so you can zoom deeper and deeper.
Steadman Kondor: There are many ways of exploring this technique. For the recent carnivale photo comp, i used it for the Seeres Tarot card as well, a recursive tarot image
Tali Rosca: It would also be fairly obvious to do in a 3D build.
Steadman Kondor: nods, but not obvious to the viewer
Tali Rosca: Though I guess people could easily get lost in the non-detailed parts of the space, then.
Steadman Kondor: I think we might be drawing to closing time soon. I want to say how much I appreciate all of you attending, and I hope you continue to enjoy some of my future exhibitions.

Baron Klaus Wulfenbach: Bitte, come next month at this time for SteamFurries! with Herr Blackberry Harvey.

[14:24] Steadman Kondor: I started to work on several horror-themed compositions which came to be exhibited
[14:24] Steadman Kondor: at the 2010 World Science Fiction convention.
[14:24] Steadman Kondor: Two of these are on the green board.
[14:24] Steadman Kondor: Two of these are My Paper Cranes and Walpurgisnacht Dance (incidentally originating from an SL event).
[14:25] Baron Klaus Wulfenbach (klauswulfenbach.outlander) grins
[14:25] Steadman Kondor: My papercranes was inspired by an SL asylum sim, very spooky
[14:25] Tali Rosca: I have always considered the Crane series a standout.
[14:25] Steadman Kondor: Walpurgisnacht dance you might recognise Mr Eclipse and Miss Elladriene Laval
[14:26] Bookworm Hienrichs nods.
[14:26] Jimmy Branagh: ((I have one in my house. Fits the decor perfectly :) ))
[14:26] Steadman Kondor: Mr Otenth Paderborn was somewhere in the b/ground, and I surgically removed him
[14:26] Rhianon Jameson: Poor guy. :)
[14:26] Steadman Kondor: This is an example of how during an event, you can get stills of av's in motion, that seems
[14:26] Bookworm Hienrichs laughs.
[14:26] Steadman Kondor: more spontaneous than in a posed picture
[14:27] Steadman Kondor: Towards the end of 2010, my Typist visited Tokyo and Kyoto.
[14:27] Steadman Kondor: When he returned, I set up the Tokaido Gallery in Steelhead Shanghai to host the RL pictures.
[14:27] Steadman Kondor: I applied different stylistic touches to them with skills learned from manipulating SL photographs.
[14:27] Steadman Kondor: (and building in SL)
[14:27] Steadman Kondor: I also shot some Japanese themed photographs in the SL Kyoto to add to the exhibition.
[14:28] Steadman Kondor: The combination of the japanese teahouse build, and the RL and SL pictures,
[14:28] Steadman Kondor: and the media of music and videos... makes this i think my most complete SL project to date
[14:28] Roberto Couturier: thank you
[14:28] Steadman Kondor: I hope to aspire to this in future exhibitions, combining the art and gallery build, and other media
[14:29] Roberto Couturier: could we have a chair for sara please
[14:29] Tali Rosca: It takes a lot of work to make such "all-round" projects.
[14:29] Baron Klaus Wulfenbach (klauswulfenbach.outlander): One moment.
[14:29] Steadman Kondor: In Mayfair I had explored the notion of a ruined watermill build being the venue to
[14:30] Steadman Kondor: exhibit paintings of a gothic theme too
[14:30] Sara Calcutt: thank you
[14:30] Steadman Kondor: If I may refer you to the picture of the dancing Maiko at the back on the green board
[14:30] Steadman Kondor: Some of my art is highly processed and filtered, and
[14:31] Steadman Kondor: a lot of posing, avatar design and doctoring. Sometimes I am happy with just a simple spontaneous shot
[14:31] Steadman Kondor: here I captured my friend Mimi-san dancing
[14:31] Steadman Kondor: Her wonderful outfit and appearance is the centre of attention here, and her graceful hand placement
[14:31] Steadman Kondor: Also the lantern on the top right, as delicate and pretty as her.
[14:32] Steadman Kondor: If I were to list some of the technical photoshopping skills used in my art,
[14:32] Steadman Kondor: it would be as follows:
[14:32] Steadman Kondor: Can you manipulate light/contrast to properly define your subject?
[14:32] Steadman Kondor: Can you correct colour saturation or
[14:32] Steadman Kondor: use it to effect to unify colour schemes not in harmony?
[14:32] Steadman Kondor: Can you crop a raw shot for an interesting composition?
[14:32] Steadman Kondor: Sometimes I can take up to 100 shots for one picture
[14:33] Steadman Kondor: Can you perform pixel surgery? Repair, combine two graphics seamlessly?
[14:33] Steadman Kondor: Stretch and distort or straighten...?
[14:33] Steadman Kondor: For printing to RL, a whole heap of new challenges come in -
[14:33] Rhianon Jameson doesn't envy Mr. Kondor's hard drive
[14:33] Steadman Kondor: photographing raw shots with high resolution, correcting pixellation bugs,
[14:33] Steadman Kondor: The SL viewer used to have a bug depicting water with higher than 3000 pixel length resolution
[14:34] Steadman Kondor: I think that is fixed now - I always ran into problems then with landscapes
[14:34] Steadman Kondor: adjusting exposure to address the translation of a screen image to printed.
[14:34] Steadman Kondor: the screen is always illuminated, while in RL lighting in a gallery room can vary
[14:34] Steadman Kondor: Sometimes it is very poor
[14:34] Steadman Kondor: Outside of photoshop skills, as an artist, you need to have an inquisitive mind
[14:34] Steadman Kondor: to investigate your subjects and areas of interest.
[14:35] Steadman Kondor: For me it helps that as a writer, I can overlay a picture with themes and meanings
[14:35] Steadman Kondor: That you dont necessarily need to know to appreciate , but it could be there as a subconscious message
[14:35] Steadman Kondor: You also need to have good avatar design skills
[14:35] Steadman Kondor: not only for the runway model perfection of male and female beauty,
[14:35] Tali Rosca: I very often use music as inspiration or guiding mood/theme.
[14:36] Steadman Kondor: I do sometimes too! I find it does infuse the picture with the mood
[14:36] Steadman Kondor: but also for character and variety.
[14:36] Steadman Kondor: I have Miss Rosca as my friend and mentor.
[14:36] Steadman Kondor: She is very good at pointing out defects my artwork that I have overlooked.
[14:36] Steadman Kondor: Sometimes I dread showing things to her unless I'm very very brave
[14:36] Steadman Kondor: I also have my good friend nichus Bermann, who offers honesty and enthusiasm in his feedback.
[14:36] Steadman Kondor: Being a writer who has participated in critique workshops, I have learned to take all feedback,
[14:37] Steadman Kondor: good and bad, and trust my own judgment on how to act on them.
[14:37] Steadman Kondor: You cant please everyone, and the most important is to please yourself...
[14:37] Steadman Kondor: Your friends may mostly say nice things, so it is good to balance that with critics who can give impartial feedback.
[14:37] Steadman Kondor: Thank you for your attention. I am ready to take questions now.
[14:37] Jimmy Branagh applauds
[14:37] Bookworm Hienrichs applauds!
[14:37] Rhianon Jameson applauds
[14:37] Darlingmonster Ember applauds
[14:37] Sidonie Ancelin (ancelin) applauds
[14:38] Vernden Jervil applauds
[14:38] Steadman Kondor: Perhaps there might be a painting from the board you'dlike me to discuss further, and that's okay too
[14:38] Glorf Bulmer applauds
[14:38] Roberto Couturier: APPLAUSE!!!!
[14:38] Jimmy Branagh: Good talk!
[14:38] Solace Fairlady applauds enthusiastically
[14:38] Darlingmonster Ember: well done
[14:38] Baron Klaus Wulfenbach (klauswulfenbach.outlander): Danke for your generous appreciation.
[14:38] Darlingmonster Ember: very nice presentation
[14:38] Bookworm Hienrichs raises her hand for a question.
[14:38] Steadman Kondor: Yes, miss hienrichs?
[14:39] Bookworm Hienrichs: How did you pick up your more technical skills--for instance, in Photoshop? Trial and error? More formal classes? Tips from people you know?
[14:39] Steadman Kondor: I'm not embarressed to say I use a paired down version of Photoshop, lol
[14:39] Darlingmonster Ember: 'paired down'?
[14:40] Bookworm Hienrichs: Photoshop Elements?
[14:40] Steadman Kondor: First there was photoshop deluxe, and then elements
[14:40] Bookworm Hienrichs chuckles. "I've got Elements, too. Still don't know a lot about it, though."
[14:40] Steadman Kondor: I have found them intuitive. and Ocassionally i refer to the web help
[14:40] Steadman Kondor: I learned them gradually though, over nearly 4 years
[14:40] Jimmy Branagh: You might consider GIMP as well. I use it more than I do PS.
[14:41] Steadman Kondor: So just spending time to play with each new feature is good for the long run.
[14:41] Steadman Kondor: Things that proved useful were the template cookie cutting
[14:41] Steadman Kondor: also the brushes ...
[14:41] Bookworm Hienrichs smiles wryly.
[14:42] Steadman Kondor: I might take an official photoshop class one day ( i am lazy...) but elements is more than enough at the present
[14:42] Steadman Kondor: and it is only one of other important aspects of creating SL art
[14:42] Steadman Kondor: the most important is feeling
[14:42] Tali Rosca: Have you (in some projects) deliberately tried to emulate a certain style or artist? Or are you always going with your own vision?
[14:42] Glorf Bulmer raises a hand.
[14:42] Steadman Kondor: and to really know and love your subject
[14:43] Steadman Kondor: I cant say anything comes to mind miss rosca, but i do visit galleries a lot, especially when i am on holidays
[14:43] Steadman Kondor: the japanese prints really inspired me too - their simplicity
[14:43] Teapot Mk 2: Have some tea.
[14:43] Bookworm Hienrichs nods.
[14:43] Steadman Kondor: william blake perhaps is an influence as well
[14:43] Steadman Kondor: noting that he isa poet as well as illustrator/artist
[14:43] Steadman Kondor: miss bulmer?
[14:44] Glorf Bulmer: How important do you consider the uniquecreative possibilities of SL itslef? The abilitiy to construct settings in a way which is, as they say, Not Possible in RL?
[14:44] Steadman Kondor: well i have some art of gargoyles.. lol
[14:44] Steadman Kondor: and also in the Unreal Avatar series
[14:44] Steadman Kondor: you see the one of the Mayor and Miss rosca,
[14:45] Steadman Kondor: my goal is to explore the boundaries of real/unreal with the avatars
[14:45] Steadman Kondor: to balance the humanity and character of the avatar, with the fact that it is an illusion
[14:45] Steadman Kondor: (the mesh lines)
[14:45] Steadman Kondor: certainly with avatar design, you can transcend what's possible in RL
[14:46] Tali Rosca doesn't really need to be in wireframe to be not-possible-in-RL :-)
[14:46] Steadman Kondor: It is possible i do more 3d types of art in the future. Stay tuned to this space :)
[14:46] Darlingmonster Ember: grins
[14:46] Bookworm Hienrichs chuckles.
[14:46] Baron Klaus Wulfenbach (klauswulfenbach.outlander): I'll free up prims.
[14:46] Glorf Bulmer nods: "one of the things that always interested me about SL art was the big installation builds, wehre you are *inside* the artwork and can interact with the artists imagination... internally, as it werer."
[14:47] Steadman Kondor: Yes, that kind of art inspires me too
[14:47] Steadman Kondor: I enjoy machinima, but i tend to enjoy the stills, and the big installation builds more, as a general
[14:47] Steadman Kondor: but also there is the philosophy that less is more
[14:47] Steadman Kondor: sometimes with just a few elements, you can suggest an entire world and culture
[14:48] Steadman Kondor: just like with a poem, you can suggest an entire univere
[14:48] Steadman Kondor: *universe
[14:48] Darlingmonster Ember: mmmmm
[14:48] Steadman Kondor: and it's all in the viewer's mind!
[14:48] Steadman Kondor: you do all the wonderful / hard work
[14:48] Tali Rosca: Yet your pictures seem to be fairly "complete".
[14:48] Tali Rosca: Not fragments the viewer then have to reconstruct and interpret.
[14:49] Steadman Kondor: perhaps
[14:49] Steadman Kondor: but your completion of the world may be different to mine, or others?
[14:50] Glorf Bulmer: But, to some extent, the viewer's interpretive mind is always a factor - Jorge Luis Borges used to say that the reader was just as important as the writer....
[14:50] Steadman Kondor: but i'm glad you find them so
[14:50] Steadman Kondor: or roland barthes = the author is dead
[14:50] Steadman Kondor: but hehe i'm not dead yet!
[14:50] Baron Klaus Wulfenbach (klauswulfenbach.outlander) chuckles
[14:50] Rhianon Jameson: Mr. Borges was a smart cookie.
[14:51] Steadman Kondor: any more questions?
[14:51] Tali Rosca: Given that I have seen the avatar Mr. Kondor wore for a recent shoot, I am not so sure...
[14:51] Steadman Kondor: oh.. zombie grandma...
[14:51] Jimmy Branagh: hehe
[14:51] Steadman Kondor: would anyone like to see zombie grandma?
[14:51] Jimmy Branagh: Sure!
[14:51] Sidonie Ancelin (ancelin): Yes, please
[14:51] Baron Klaus Wulfenbach (klauswulfenbach.outlander): Heh.
[14:52] Glorf Bulmer: I for one would be thrilled.
[14:52] Steadman Kondor: haha not on me
[14:52] Steadman Kondor: on the red board...
[14:52] Steadman Kondor: it's something more recent i've worked on
[14:52] Steadman Kondor: a bit more gruesome
[14:52] Darlingmonster Ember: ah
[14:53] Steadman Kondor: my favourite commentary on this is, "I made the doily"
[14:53] Darlingmonster Ember: ha
[14:53] Baron Klaus Wulfenbach (klauswulfenbach.outlander): You have disappointed them, Herr Kondor.
[14:53] Baron Klaus Wulfenbach (klauswulfenbach.outlander) grins
[14:53] Tali Rosca: Oh, I see you changed the pose!
[14:53] Steadman Kondor: I'm interested to hear whether ppl see this as a depressing or uplifting picture...
[14:53] Darlingmonster Ember: the cat lived.... uplifting
[14:54] Steadman Kondor: i think i have a lot of feeling for the subject, it's been in my mind a long time. Sl allowed me to express it
[14:54] Steadman Kondor: and say so much without a single word
[14:54] Steadman Kondor: The cat lived, but loves the owner so much, cant bear to feast on her
[14:54] Glorf Bulmer recalls Robert Bloch....
[14:54] Steadman Kondor: see also how the painting is lightly glowing
[14:55] Steadman Kondor: a photoshop effect, and also a separate prim
[14:55] Steadman Kondor: which allows you to zoom in with more detail
[14:55] Steadman Kondor: the painting within the painting i mean
[14:55] Tali Rosca: That is actually a curious idea I'll have to work with now!
[14:55] Steadman Kondor: The inclusion of the room corner is something I learned from Miss rosca for perspective
[14:55] Tali Rosca: A smaller prim inside each version, so you can zoom deeper and deeper.
[14:56] Steadman Kondor: There are many ways of exploring this technique,
[14:57] Steadman Kondor: For the recent carnivale photo comp, i used it for the Seeres Tarot card as well, a recursive tarot image
[14:57] Tali Rosca: It would also be fairly obvious to do in a 3D build.
[14:57] Steadman Kondor: nods, but not obvious to the viewer
[14:57] Tali Rosca: Though I guess people could easily get lost in the non-detailed parts of the space, then.
[14:58] Steadman Kondor: I think we might be drawing to closing time soon
[14:58] Steadman Kondor: I want to say how much I appreciate all of you attending
[14:58] Bookworm Hienrichs: Thank you, Mr. Kondor!
[14:58] Steadman Kondor: and I hope you continue to enjoy some of my future exhibitions
[14:58] Darlingmonster Ember: thankyou
[14:58] Jimmy Branagh: Thenks Mr. Steadman!
[14:58] Darlingmonster Ember applauds
[14:58] Stereo Nacht: `*.¸.*´ APPLAUSE `*.¸.*´APPLAUSE `*.¸.*´

[14:59] Roberto Couturier: APPLAUSE!!!!
[14:59] Darlingmonster Ember: very nicely presented
[14:59] Mosseveno Tenk: one last question?
[14:59] Roberto Couturier: very nice
[14:59] Steadman Kondor: yes mayor, certainly :)
[14:59] Solace Fairlady: Best one yet this year!
[14:59] Roberto Couturier: appreciated
[14:59] Mosseveno Tenk: where can i get a print of that portrait you did of me
[15:00] Jimmy Branagh: (Columbo?)
[15:00] Bookworm Hienrichs grins at Jimmy.
[15:00] Steadman Kondor: i'd be glad to send you one!
[15:00] Jimmy Branagh: :)
[15:00] Rhianon Jameson: Only 10,000 Lindens!
[15:00] Rhianon Jameson grins
[15:00] Steadman Kondor: pls drop me a line
[15:00] Mosseveno Tenk: i'd pay pounds sterling for it.
[15:00] Baron Klaus Wulfenbach (klauswulfenbach.outlander): Herr Kondor, might you be willing to share one or two pieces for our aetheric journal, to go with the transcript?
[15:00] Jimmy Branagh: It's a great pic
[15:00] Roberto Couturier: US dollars here
[15:00] Rhianon Jameson: Hold out for drachma, Mr. Clockwinder.
[15:00] Baron Klaus Wulfenbach (klauswulfenbach.outlander): It will be published at http://aethersalon.blogspot.com soon.
[15:01] Steadman Kondor: yes certainly, herr baron
[15:01] Baron Klaus Wulfenbach (klauswulfenbach.outlander): Last call, I am picking up the jar.
[15:01] Mosseveno Tenk: are you crazy? i have a jar full of worthless drachma under my bed from when i was a sailor.
[15:01] Jimmy Branagh: ((Got to run. Thanks again Mr. Kondor! BYee all!)
[15:01] Vernden Jervil: bye Jimmy
[15:01] Baron Klaus Wulfenbach (klauswulfenbach.outlander) waves at Herr Jimmy
[15:01] Jimmy Branagh waves, smiles, and bolts.
[15:01] Bookworm Hienrichs: Bye, Jimmy!
[15:01] Sidonie Ancelin (ancelin): Good bye, Jimmy
[15:01] Rhianon Jameson: Bye, Jimmy
[15:01] Stereo Nacht: Good night Mr. Branagh!
[15:02] Rhianon Jameson: Wow, he *is* bolting!
[15:02] Baron Klaus Wulfenbach (klauswulfenbach.outlander): Bitte, come next month at this time for SteamFurries! with Herr Blackberry Harvey.
[15:02] Rhianon Jameson: I look forward to it, Herr Baron.
[15:02] Steadman Kondor: woot! i look forward to that
[15:02] Stereo Nacht: My typist has to go too; she has an assignment to work on...
[15:02] Baron Klaus Wulfenbach (klauswulfenbach.outlander): Tell all your friends.

Tinies! Salon (Edited Transcript)

((Note: I shall try to add some pictures from Miss Discovolante's slide presentation in the near future.))

Baron Klaus Wulfenbach: Before we start, let me request that any immediately unneeded HUDs or other scripted devices be removed or put into sleep mode for the comfort of all here. Please also disarm, as Tinies are dangerous enough without mechanical assistance.

The contents of the tipjar here at the edge of the stage will be given to our speaker at the conclusion of the event. Bitte, show your appreciation for her time and talent.

I should like to introduce our speaker now: Fraulein Martini Discovolante. Martini Discovolante is a 5-year resident of Second Life, nearly 4 of them in Caledon. She creates here for both SL and RL projects. She is a Dean of Caledon Oxbridge, and a founder in Caledon Kittiwickshire. That is where you will find her Tiny Shops, and quite often, her. Fraulein, the Salon is yours.

Martini Discovolante: thank you so much!

i must say i am pleased and surprised to see so MANY tinies, and types of tinies here! i have concentrated my presentation mostly on the Wynx Variety, and that iw who i make for.... but i see i will ahve to start revamping my reperatoire!

Welcome to Tinyology, a pseudo-scientific look at the virtual folk known as Tinies. Today's presentation was prepared in advance, and will show as green text in your chat window. It will be augmented by elaborate illustrative slides appearing here on the large viewer. Please let me know if things go too fast, or too slow, or if you need anything repeated. Or explained -- this study is full of lots of esoteric L$5 words, many of which were made up especially for this presentation! Should you need clarification, please ask: but in the interest of time, it would be best for all concerned if you simply nod, harumph, and look knowledgeable, like everyone else.

There are many varieties of small avatars in the Metaverse. But in Second Life, taxonomy divisions are not by the standard Genus or Species, but instead by Origin. Here we see a round up of some of more prolific types: The Tinies of Extrovirtual are the oldest, the most prevalent, and >koff!< many firmly believe the smartest, most talented, and most attractive of the smaller-statured in Second Life.

A Short History:
"Tinies" are quite literally the dream-become-virtual-reality of Miss Wynx Whiplash, a RL artist: "After making the first widely-popular shoulder pets (a term she coined) in Second Life®, Wynx had a vivid dream one night. In the dream, she was surrounded by dozens of small biped animals. They were dressed in clothing and telling her how much they loved her. Wynx woke up a woman obsessed. After securing the rights to the magic shrinking animations of fellow avatar maker, Kage Seraph, Wynx made 3 very short animal avatars and dubbed them Tiny avatars. Kage Seraph is indeed the father of us Short folk! "The Tinies" struck a chord with the Second Life® population and suddenly Tinydom was a fad bigger than any previously seen on the SL grid."
~Source: www.jazzpaws.com

Wynx has gone far beyond those initial three avatars -- Shown here are just the bipawdal Tinies: you will also find Four-footed or Quad avs in the form of bears, ponies, ferrets, and others.

Communities began to spring up to serve what has gone from a novelty to a full-blown culture. Zayn Till developed Raglan Shire -- today a Tiny Nation of great stature, where Tinies of all persuasions live, party, create, and sell. It borders Extrovirtual, home to the creations of Wynx Whiplash, Abramelin Wolfe (Abraminations), and Noramyr Gullwing (Flights of Fantasy), all tiny-centric creators in whole or in part.

Says Zayn: "…our goals within Second Life and Inworldz the last several years (non profit, encourage people to interact, collaborate, create and share with each other, the silliness, PLEASE LEAVE THE STATUS QUO AT THE DOOR lol)
Zayn continues… Wynx and myself are a unified front with Jazz Paws as we try to bring The Tinies & Raglan Shire and everything that goes along with this world and its inhabitants to the real world as an animated project."
Please check out www.jazzpaws.com for another great example of Second Life translating in to Real Life!

Some Choose Tinytude as a way of Second Life, some, like me, are half-time Tiny, and many many more have a Tiny in the closet, a second self, for when times call for a Little change. Martini Discovolante: But being Tiny is not for everyone. You have the Tiny in you or you do not. For me, I find being Tiny liberating -- to be a creature of imagination and memories, without even a vestigial representation of my first or second self, and without the burden of the cumbersome role play that bots, monsters, dragons, and other alternative forms seem to require. Tinies can possess great humanity, but without any nod to human features... unlike the anthropomorphic furs, that display characteristics of sexuality or contemporary beauty.

And there is the cute: you can get away with a lot being this cute. Even defoliating most of a rose garden can be forgiven! Sorry again, Miss Snook!

Here we see two entirely random, unknown and unidentifiable Kitty Pirates stealing sheep from the Hatchie World Domination Headquarters and Snack Corral: Isle of Wyrms. Tinies thrive in nearly every kind of environment and open community (places that do not limit themselves to strictly human representation). Despite many misconceptions:

Tinies are possible because of their unusual, and highly sophisticated anatomy. Tinies have evolved beyond the need for knees and elbows, and get along well in this efficient compact form. Demonstrated here via a Modern X-Ray Machine. (Children, and those with delicate constitutions, may wish to turn away for a moment!) Also not for the Squeamish: Strictly for scientific purposes, and with his full permission we disassemble a frog. Note the basic construction of the CUTEaneous exo-primature, and how the all important Kage Seraph folded AO is central to the Tiny physique. Thank you, very much, Mr Green! You may get dressed now!

As you may surmise from all this, Tinies require special sits, animations, and all garments and accessories are attached prims. (In your Swag Bag, you will find a Tiny Mushroom Seat, created just for this meeting. Decorative in the garden, it will also provide your Tiny, or Tiny Guest with a comfy and cushiony perch. It is Mod/Copy and will serve many different Tinies.) Mr Black is included!

Working on this small canvas requires the designer to telegraph their intent by balancing detail and broad strokes without burying the Tiny avatar in the process. Basically, we are decorating prims and applying them to the Tiny's prims, or replacing them entirely (don't worry! any body parts supplanted by clothing are stored safely in the avatar folder!) And--many joys!-- today's Tiny Wynx Avatars have their scripts in the head, and all other body parts are copy/mod. You can even "Rezz, Dress and Rename" limbs separately to assure proper fit when cheering, playing Critter Ball or Jousting. And the new SL Viewer allows multiple items worn on a single attachment point, just use ADD to Current Outfit, ADD, or WEAR and choose the appropriate part. Tiny Life is much easier these days!

Tiny folk love to dress up, have parties, themed events, and live in many environments. And they love to dress the part. My Tiny work is generally in the Costume, Formal and Victorian realm. I chose the elements most prone the evoke the era aimed for, and create textures for each prim-portion that needs covering. You may recognize my look today as "Dr. (Miss) Ephemera Wirefly, my character in the Primgraph's Graphic Novel, "Quest for the Golden Prim." As a Lady of Science, she sports her own invention, the Cavorite Steam Bustle, and a rather worse-for-wear summer dress. Her travel boots replace the original Tiny legs. And the hair is a modified version of a Biggie Favorite from Matreiya. Martini Discovolante: The Hairpins are courtesy of Mr Marion Questi, and his amazing particle-abilities.

Tiny ladies demand fashion and glamour as much as their Biggie counterparts. Gowns, heels, even faux furs are in high demand, plus eyelashes, and lipstick can be bought in Raglan. Tiny gents tend to be more casual, but many dress the part when in the Steamlands, or on special occasions. Here is the first Tiny outfit i ever made: for the Guv'nah of Caledon, Desmond Shang. Made for his occasional Tiny self, it is a faithful reproduction off his well-known everyday --and i DO mean EVERY-DAMN-DAY-- Guv-suit :)

Most often I find myself making new "legs" to complete the outfit. I do believe mine were the first Tiny High heels, and they are still a big hit. Now nearly every outfit I make includes shoes for gents or ladies. Makers rejoice! Tinies can wear many of the same accessories Biggies do; they simply need to be repositioned to accommodate Tiny limb placement. And we may be TINY, but our heads are big! Kitties are especially notorious for their mammoth melons, (heads that is -- we are talking TINIES here!). Hair and hats may have to be LARGER than on our Human counterparts.

With such a challenging avatar-type, Tinies are for the most part quite resourceful and adept at adjusting their prims. But I always offer Free Adjustment and Fitting Services, and I must say, they have rarely been requested. Most Tinies are excellent Alteration Tailors. (By the way, NEVER use those words to a Tiny Puppy or Kitty!)

An important secret to prim-dressing folks who live in active, yet laggy sims is using "zoned textures": Textures involved in one outfit are organized on a single texture, then carefully placed on the proper prims via positioning windows in the EDIT>texture window. Sounds like a pain, but get it down once, and you will find there are economies of scale. Four textures made, only one needs to rezz! Most outfits require only one or two zoned textures. And instead of placing 4+ textures on the prims, you need place only the one.

Raglan Shire hosts regular themed events: Medieval~ including jousts, Rat-on-a-Stick and a plague-wagon, The Wild West, Steampunk, Mardi-Gras, and many other communities have Tiny-centric events, liek our ValenTiny's Day party last year in Caledon Tanglewood Pirate Week ~ with a pirate cove and kraken hunt, Prehistoric Days, and --of course-- Halloween, Valentine's and Wootmas events. For a complete calendar, visit www.raglanshire.com/events/ Free vend space is provided on theme areas for creators, and the Creativity Level is pumped up to 11.

Being Tiny and Creating for Tinies is a pure joy to me. I am still exploring vehicles, poses and gestures but clothing is my main love. Distilling the essence and energy of a genre, and making it resonate on this small canvas is a challenge I relish. I try to interpret style, create faithful reproductions, and have had a lot of fun taking contemporary clothing beyond the cute, and into Couture. I thank you all for indulging me this afternoon -- I hope I have given a glimpse into something I love, and that you have been inspired to take a little TIny time yourself!

Martini Discovolante: With your permission, I will end by showing slides of a few Tiny things I have made while taking any questions you may have.

Baron Klaus Wulfenbach: Fraulein Martini, shall we start the Q&A?
Martini Discovolante: sure!

Chrono Cogshine (chronometria) raises her hand as she has a question
Chrono Cogshine (chronometria): I am curious to know how the relationship between hatchies and tinies began, seeing as they are different races and from different places
Martini Discovolante: oooh-- honestly? i think it was Miss Peaches Latrell's ponies broke the ice!
Sea (sea.warcliffe): hatchies and tinies are natural friends IMHO
Martini Discovolante: the hatchies loved them.
Martini Discovolante: adn after that i becah to see a lot of sharing of cookies and waffles going on.
Chrono Cogshine (chronometria) nods
Ceejay Writer: Ah yes. the Waffles.
Martini Discovolante: but that was the first time i saw a lot of hatchiees in Raglan
Martini Discovolante: oh! and it you like-- visit the Hatchie Haven in Isle of Wyrms... i helped work on it! :)
Chrono Cogshine (chronometria): ah yes i know of it, i`m a scholar studying dragons there, thats how i learned of hatchies, thankyou
Solace Fairlady: what are \hatchies, a version of Tinies?
Alexis Radikal (alexzev): Lickle dragons.

Martini Discovolante: Mr Pearse?
Edward Pearse: Something I had to mention, because it still does my head in
Edward Pearse: Some time back I saw a shop selling a full range of tiny BDSM gear
Edward Pearse: Leathers, st andrews cross
Baldr Wingtips: !!!
Jimmy Branagh: 80
Daeliah: :O
Martini Discovolante: not on Raglan, i can assure you!
Pippy: Eww.
Devnet Caratauc (devnet) raises an eyebrow.
Vic Mornington: O.o
Kara Kent (kara.timtam): Wow, SL has something for everybody's dream, even the ones you didn't know you had
Devnet Caratauc (devnet): That's a little icky.
Gracie Saint Possum (morganne.darkstone): Grooossssssss!
Linus Lacombe: Diffrent strokes for diffrent folks
Edward Pearse: No it was on the mainland :-)
Nika Thought-werk (robotnika) nods.
Martini Discovolante: it is a sad sad thing.
Kara Kent (kara.timtam): Mainland.
Baron Klaus Wulfenbach: Tinies are known for a lack of sexuality.
Nika Thought-werk (robotnika) nods.
Gracie Saint Possum (morganne.darkstone): And dat's how we LIKES it
Alexis Radikal (alexzev): Iz married, but when tiny, we only hugs.
Capella Teal (capellateal) sighs
Stereo Nacht: (Despite the number of bunnies...)
Alexis Radikal (alexzev): Tinies hug. Nots other stuffs.
Sheryl Skytower: tiny leather.... hmm.... iz good for weather!
Edward Pearse: Must be "plushies" then :-)
Baron Klaus Wulfenbach: It's one of the appeals, however.
Astari Saiman: Bunnies are nice!
Kara Kent (kara.timtam): Tinies grow their own fur and leathers

Martini Discovolante: Gracie, you had a question?
Gracie Saint Possum (morganne.darkstone): I wanna knows wot shop you sells dat dress at? In Raglan at da wharf?
Martini Discovolante: oh! i never put thsi on out!
Martini Discovolante: i am a lazy lazy bunneh
Gracie Saint Possum (morganne.darkstone): pffft

Gracie Saint Possum (morganne.darkstone): smiles
Martini Discovolante: edward, thisis the cloosest most tinies get to teh leathers----the Tiny CatFights!
Gracie Saint Possum (morganne.darkstone): Been t'da shop at Raglan Wharf...jus' not see dat dress

Martini Discovolante points to the slide
Gracie Saint Possum (morganne.darkstone): Thot mebbe wuz new

Seraph Timeless: How do tinys feel about micros? Are they usually friends?
Martini Discovolante: i pretty much think Tinies liek everyone
Martini Discovolante: and they are getting more and more popular
Kara Kent (kara.timtam): Tinier than micros. I met my first micro at last Relay For Life -- he's a powerhouse!
Kara Kent (kara.timtam): A bit hard to see though
Baron Klaus Wulfenbach: The Herr with Passionate Redheads?
Ravelli Ormstein: micro on a stick...
Leona Mantarai (lilfae): Wow, now thats small
Linus Lacombe: I remember one at RFL... Mr Smalls, it seems, was his name
Sheryl Skytower: XD
Kara Kent (kara.timtam): Ja Mein Herr.
Martini Discovolante: they are small but have a big foot print
Vic Mornington: Lomgren Smalls....yup
Further Monday: there are also the new mesh petites
Tanwy Hazelnut: I know him!! He fit perfectly into the mini-Steelhead we made!
Kara Kent (kara.timtam): Smalls. Brilliant.
Linus Lacombe: Yes, Lomgren Smalls is who I was thinking of.
Sheryl Skytower: mesh petites?
Astari Saiman: Was Biggy Smalls tiny?
Ceejay Writer: So many advances.
Further Monday: i'm wearing one now :)
Solace Fairlady: Essentially micro avs, made from mesh, brand name is \Petite
Sheryl Skytower: wow......
Baron Klaus Wulfenbach: The fairy avatars are also micro, ja?
Kara Kent (kara.timtam): Evidently, Tinies are perfectly happy with Micros. It would be hypotrical not to.
Leona Mantarai (lilfae): Mine is a Mesh Petite from Fallen Gods ^_^
Martini Discovolante: the ones from Fallen Gods are beautiful!
Daeliah: Seraph are you a micro too?
Seraph Timeless nods
Daeliah: ? cuuute
Seraph Timeless: Thank you

Baron Klaus Wulfenbach: We have about 15 minutes left.
Baron Klaus Wulfenbach: Other questions?

Steadman Kondor: yes
Baron Klaus Wulfenbach: Ja, Herr Steadman.
Steadman Kondor: about poses and anims - any tips
Steadman Kondor: can we use qvanimator like normal?
Martini Discovolante: remember to disengage Joint limits, in Avimator, Steadman!
Martini Discovolante: then if you liek i have a fold you acna use.
Martini Discovolante: can use, but i thik i have to email it to you.
Steadman Kondor: ok thanks!
Eilidh McCullough: With the zoned textures, do you use a larger resolution, such as 1024x1024?
Martini Discovolante: you canna export from SL ;(
Steadman Kondor: ill send you the email
Martini Discovolante: i do indeed, Eili
Martini Discovolante: as i am zonind 4 512s it still comes out more efficinet
Martini Discovolante: and i chave put in more
Martini Discovolante: have*
Martini Discovolante: i have on a build, used 16up
Edward Pearse: Arcadia Asylum was a big proponent of zoned textures
Alexis Radikal (alexzev): Iz sent Steadman a link for a fold, Miss Martini.
Leona Mantarai (lilfae): Since my 'micro' walks and acts like a biggie, are there scripted systems that can lower your jump heights, slow your walking/running speeds, to look somewhat more natural?
Martini Discovolante: oh thank you Alexis!
Martini Discovolante: i am not sure about Micros, Leona
Leona Mantarai (lilfae): Guess I have to code my own D:
Martini Discovolante: ther eare many Micro Groups, Leons, adn they are very helpful.
Edward Pearse: Micro humans are still new Leona. given enough time I'm sure there will be dedicated AOs
Martini Discovolante: when i first got mine it was indispensible
Martini Discovolante: Fallen Gods should have a group.
Baron Klaus Wulfenbach: If there are no other questions at the moment, one last chance to tip our excellent speaker before I pick up the jar and everybody can riverdance.
Leona Mantarai (lilfae): I'll look into it, code my own if need be.
Alexis Radikal (alexzev): ~ Time to Tiny River Dance ! ~

Baron Klaus Wulfenbach: THE TRANSCRIPT WILL BE PUBLISHED AT AETHERSALON.BLOGSPOT.COM
Baron Klaus Wulfenbach: Come back next month, third Sunday of each month at 2!

Martini Discovolante: ravelli-- what do you think of an expanded Tiny Class for Oxb?
Ravelli Ormstein: as a regularly event?
Ravelli Ormstein: i don't know if there would be enough interest for a weekly tiny class, but perhaps doing it in a bigger timeframe
Martini Discovolante: i will think on it Rav.. perhaps MAKING yuor own tiny class ;-)

[13:59] Ravelli Ormstein: oh, i don't fence much these days
[13:59] Leona Mantarai (lilfae): \o/
[13:59] Baron Klaus Wulfenbach: Before we start, let me request that any immediately unneeded HUDs or other scripted devices be removed or put into sleep mode for the comfort of all here. Please also disarm, as Tinies are dangerous enough without mechanical assistance.
[13:59] Seraph Timeless: Hi
[13:59] Devnet Caratauc (devnet) checks her fingers and finds no hud
[13:59] Linus Lacombe: Ummm
[14:00] Ravelli Ormstein: i have no huds
[14:00] Daeliah: I have no trousers
[14:00] Edward Pearse: I have the right to arm bears!
[14:00] Ceejay Writer: Yay!
[14:00] Leona Mantarai (lilfae): We all do, except the armless. -p
[14:00] Devnet Caratauc (devnet): I have the right to arm your bears!
[14:00] Baron Klaus Wulfenbach: The contents of the tipjar here at the edge of the stage will be given to our speaker at the conclusion of the event. Bitte, show your appreciation for her time and talent.
[14:00] Stereo Nacht: Well, bears without arms would be rather handicapped! ;-)
[14:01] Baron Klaus Wulfenbach: I could tell you stories about armed bears.
[14:01] Devnet Caratauc (devnet): I like to arm them with lugers
[14:01] Vic Mornington looks at the tiny little bunny behind yoda
[14:01] Baron Klaus Wulfenbach: I should like to introduce our speaker now: Fraulein Martini Discovolante.
[14:01] Baron Klaus Wulfenbach: Martini Discovolante is a 5-year resident of Second Life, nearly 4 of them in Caledon. She creates here for both SL and RL projects.
[14:01] Solace Fairlady Hooooooooos!!!
[14:01] Ravelli Ormstein: take me in your arms tonight.... *sing*
[14:01] Seraph Timeless: Can I have my cookies now Vic?
[14:01] Baron Klaus Wulfenbach: She is a Dean of Caledon Oxbridge, and a founder in Caledon Kittiwickshire. That is where you will find her Tiny Shops, and quite often, her.
[14:01] Leona Mantarai (lilfae) claps her lil fairy hands.
[14:01] Stereo Nacht: `*.¸.*´ APPLAUSE `*.¸.*´APPLAUSE `*.¸.*´
[14:01] Linus Lacombe: HOOOOOOOO!!!
[14:01] Caspian Moonstone: 8D
[14:02] Vic Mornington hands the bunny some cookies and cake
[14:02] Martini Discovolante curtsies
[14:02] Sheryl Skytower: *:-.,_,.-:*'``'*Yayyyyyyy!!!!*:-.,_,.-:*'``'*
[14:02] Ceejay Writer applauds!
[14:02] Vic Mornington: Dr. Hoooo!
[14:02] Baron Klaus Wulfenbach: I am pleased to also call her a neighbour.
[14:02] Devnet Caratauc (devnet) claps!
[14:02] Baron Klaus Wulfenbach bows
[14:02] Baron Klaus Wulfenbach: Fraulein, the Salon is yours.
[14:02] Seraph Timeless noms
[14:02] Martini Discovolante: thank you so much!
[14:02] Martini Discovolante: i must say i am pleased and surprised to see so MANY tinies, and types of tinies here!
[14:02] Tanwy Hazelnut claps
[14:03] Vic Mornington: :D
[14:03] Yoda: YAY!
[14:03] Caspian Moonstone: :D
[14:03] Caspian Moonstone: I'm a tiny human
[14:03] Devnet Caratauc (devnet) waves at Nika!
[14:03] Martini Discovolante: i have concentrated my presentation mostly on the Wynx Variety, and that iw who i make for....
[14:03] Stereo Nacht can't help wondering if Babbage would collapse from a "final tiny riverdance" as we do at the tiny poetry slam... ;-)
[14:03] Martini Discovolante: but i see i will ahve to start revamping my reperatoire!
[14:04] Devnet Caratauc (devnet) snickers
[14:04] Martini Discovolante: (oooh! please wait till after! :P)
[14:04] Edward Pearse: Babbage is tough. It survived the Raglan carollers
[14:04] Caspian Moonstone: Revampanator!
[14:04] Leona Mantarai (lilfae): Not sure I can do those, my meshy form uses normal anims. Would be fun to try
[14:04] Martini Discovolante: Welcome to Tinyology, a pseudo-scientific look at the virtual folk known as Tinies.
[14:04] Nika Thought-werk (robotnika) pats the tiny puppet on the head and whispers "I will protect thee from wolves. I so swear it."
[14:05] Stereo Nacht: (of course! It's how we say "goodbye", not "hello"! ;-) )
[14:05] Martini Discovolante: Today's presentation was prepared in advance, and will show as green text in your chat window. It will be augmented by elaborate illustrative slides appearing here on the large viewer.
[14:05] Martini Discovolante: Please let me know if things go too fast, or too slow, or if you need anything repeated. Or explained -- this study is full of lots of esoteric L$5 words, many of which were made up especially for this presentation!
[14:05] Astari Saiman: Tiny Powerpoint!
[14:05] Devnet Caratauc (devnet) giggles a little half crazed and hovers closer to her protector.
[14:05] Vic Mornington: :D
[14:05] Martini Discovolante: Should you need clarification, please ask: but in the interest of time, it would be best for all concerned if you simply nod, harumph, and look knowledgeable, like everyone else.
[14:05] Solace Fairlady laughs
[14:05] Claymore Macbain laughs
[14:05] Martini Discovolante: There are many varieties of small avatars in the Metaverse. But in Second Life, taxonomy divisions are not by the standard Genus or Species, but instead by Origin. Here we see a round up of some of more prolific types:
[14:06] Linus Lacombe tries to look as knowledgeable as a white squirrel can.
[14:06] Martini Discovolante: Note the Extrovirtual Tiny is highlighted. That is the variety we will be discussing here today.
[14:06] Vic Mornington: biggie vulgaris LMAO
[14:06] Alexis Radikal (alexzev): Thank you!
[14:06] Martini Discovolante: The Tinies of Extrovirtual are the oldest, the most prevalent, and >koff!< many firmly believe the smartest, most talented, and most attractive of the smaller-statured in Second Life.
[14:06] Gwen the Explorer (libgwen): Where are we?
[14:06] Gwen the Explorer (libgwen): And why was the invite so confusing?
[14:07] Pippy: Pippy looks at the vulpes micromiraculous.
[14:07] Martini Discovolante: A Short History:
[14:07] Martini Discovolante: "Tinies" are quite literally the dream-become-virtual-reality of Miss Wynx Whiplash, a RL artist:
[14:07] Martini Discovolante: "After making the first widely-popular shoulder pets (a term she coined) in Second Life®, Wynx had a vivid dream one night. In the dream, she was surrounded by dozens of small biped animals.
[14:07] Martini Discovolante: They were dressed in clothing and telling her how much they loved her.
[14:07] Martini Discovolante: Wynx woke up a woman obsessed. After securing the rights to the magic shrinking animations of fellow avatar maker, Kage Seraph, Wynx made 3 very short animal avatars and dubbed them Tiny avatars.
[14:07] Vic Mornington: awwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
[14:08] Caspian Moonstone: True story?
[14:08] Martini Discovolante: Kage Seraph is indeed the father of us Short folk!
[14:08] Martini Discovolante: "The Tinies" struck a chord with the Second Life® population and suddenly Tinydom was a fad bigger than any previously seen on the SL grid."
[14:08] Martini Discovolante: tis tru!
[14:08] Martini Discovolante: ~Source: www.jazzpaws.com
[14:08] Devnet Caratauc (devnet): wow
[14:08] Little M (littlemystery): amazing!
[14:08] Caspian Moonstone: :D
[14:08] Caspian Moonstone: No way!
[14:08] Ravelli Ormstein prays Wynx
[14:08] Martini Discovolante: Wynx has gone far beyond those initial three avatars -- Shown here are just the bipawdal Tinies: you will also find Four-footed or Quad avs in the form of bears, ponies, ferrets, and others.
[14:08] Linus Lacombe: Tinies are a fad? Very long lasting then!
[14:09] Little M (littlemystery): :O
[14:09] Martini Discovolante: they were--
[14:09] Martini Discovolante: Communities began to spring up to serve what has gone from a novelty to a full-blown culture.
[14:09] Ceejay Writer: No, rock and roll is a fad. Tinies are quite permanent.
[14:09] Martini Discovolante: Zayn Till developed Raglan Shire -- today a Tiny Nation of great stature, where Tinies of all persuasions live, party, create, and sell.
[14:09] Martini Discovolante: It borders Extrovirtual, home to the creations of Wynx Whiplash, Abramelin Wolfe (Abraminations), and Noramyr Gullwing (Flights of Fantasy), all tiny-centric creators in whole or in part.
[14:09] Vic Mornington: YAY Raglanshire
[14:09] Martini Discovolante: Says Zayn: "…our goals within Second Life and Inworldz the last several years (non profit, encourage people to interact, collaborate, create and share with each other, the silliness, PLEASE LEAVE THE STATUS QUO AT THE DOOR lol)
[14:09] Martini Discovolante: Zayn continues… Wynx and myself are a unified front with Jazz Paws as we try to bring The Tinies & Raglan Shire and everything that goes along with this world and its inhabitants to the real world as an animated project."
[14:09] Caspian Moonstone: Is this where the first tinie wa happened?
[14:09] Leona Mantarai (lilfae): Raglanshire win!
[14:09] Martini Discovolante: Please check out www.jazzpaws.com for another great example of Second Life translating in to Real Life!
[14:10] Sara Calcutt: thank yoyu
[14:10] Martini Discovolante: Some Choose Tinytude as a way of Second Life, some, like me, are half-time Tiny, and many many more have a Tiny in the closet, a second self, for when times call for a Little change.
[14:10] Daeliah: ~*~*~ BUNNEH!!!! ~*~*~
[14:10] Martini Discovolante: But being Tiny is not for everyone. You have the Tiny in you or you do not.
[14:10] Tepic Harlequin: mostly waffles?
[14:10] Sea (sea.warcliffe): some have the heart of a tiny - in a Jar :)
[14:10] Chrono Cogshine (chronometria): waffles!
[14:10] Steadman Kondor: :) tiny in the closet's banging to come out!
[14:10] Baldr Wingtips: can we riverdance now ?
[14:10] Martini Discovolante: i made space for Syrup too!
[14:10] Martini Discovolante: For me, I find being Tiny liberating -- to be a creature of imagination and memories, without even a vestigial representation of my first or second self,
[14:10] Pippy: Mmmmm.
[14:10] Caspian Moonstone: I love waffles!!
[14:10] Martini Discovolante: and without the burden of the cumbersome role play that bots, monsters, dragons, and other alternative forms seem to require. Tinies can possess great humanity, but without any nod to human features...
[14:11] Martini Discovolante: unlike the anthropomorphic furs, that display characteristics of sexuality or contemporary beauty.
[14:11] Edward Pearse: Save the Riverdance for later
[14:11] Baldr Wingtips: :D
[14:11] Martini Discovolante: And there is the cute: you can get away with a lot being this cute.
[14:11] Ceejay Writer nods to that.
[14:11] Steadman Kondor: muahaha
[14:11] Sea (sea.warcliffe) nods
[14:11] Martini Discovolante: Even defoliating most of a rose garden can be forgiven! Sorry again, Miss Snook!
[14:11] Devnet Caratauc (devnet): Like stealing socks.
[14:11] Ravelli Ormstein: cute? me???
[14:11] Seraph Timeless: Or cookies
[14:11] Ravelli Ormstein: where?
[14:11] Devnet Caratauc (devnet): But not waffles
[14:11] Martini Discovolante: Here we see two entirely random, unknown and unidentifiable Kitty Pirates stealing sheep from the Hatchie World Domination Headquarters and Snack Corral: Isle of Wyrms.
[14:11] Sea (sea.warcliffe): I like to decorate my firends shops
[14:11] Steadman Kondor trampled the tulips
[14:11] Yoda looks around and feels the cute flowing through him.
[14:11] Nika Thought-werk (robotnika): I protect from wolves.
[14:12] Caspian Moonstone: WOLVES!?!
[14:12] Devnet Caratauc (devnet): I like to haunt things
[14:12] Martini Discovolante: Tinies thrive in nearly every kind of environment and open community (places that do not limit themselves to strictly human representation). Despite many misconceptions:
[14:12] Nika Thought-werk (robotnika) nods happily.
[14:12] Gracie Saint Possum (morganne.darkstone): \
[14:12] Sheryl Skytower: *snorgles merrily*
[14:12] Leona Mantarai (lilfae): Well, sometimes I'm a waffle-stealing varmint..
[14:12] Gracie Saint Possum (morganne.darkstone): sowwy cat on keys
[14:12] Alexis Radikal (alexzev) only borrows waffles on a permanent basis.
[14:12] Martini Discovolante: Tinies are possible because of their unusual, and highly sophisticated anatomy. Tinies have evolved beyond the need for knees and elbows, and get along well in this efficient compact form.
[14:13] Sea (sea.warcliffe): we aerodynamic
[14:13] Jimmy Branagh: Efficient
[14:13] Martini Discovolante: Demonstrated here via a Modern X-Ray Machine. (Children, and those with delicate constitutions, may wish to turn away for a moment!)
[14:13] Stereo Nacht: *Cute* waffle-stealing varmint! ;-)
[14:13] Daeliah: EEP
[14:13] Daeliah: ooh glowy
[14:13] Baron Klaus Wulfenbach: Fascinating.
[14:13] Alexis Radikal (alexzev) blushes.
[14:13] Caspian Moonstone: Oh GODS... LIGHT!!
[14:13] Martini Discovolante: Also not for the Squeamish: Strictly for scientific purposes, and with his full permission we disassemble a frog.
[14:13] Vic Mornington: :-o
[14:13] Sheryl Skytower: *swoons*
[14:13] Daeliah: nuu
[14:13] Jimmy Branagh: Gasp!
[14:14] Gracie Saint Possum (morganne.darkstone): OHHH MYY GAHHH
[14:14] Martini Discovolante: Note the basic construction of the CUTEaneous exo-primature, and how the all important Kage Seraph folded AO is central to the Tiny physique.
[14:14] Ceejay Writer wonders if she still has a recipe for frogs legs.
[14:14] Leona Mantarai (lilfae): The horror!
[14:14] Pippy: Noooooo!
[14:14] Sea (sea.warcliffe): mmmm frog legs
[14:14] Gracie Saint Possum (morganne.darkstone): Iz dat Vroom??
[14:14] Caspian Moonstone: Ima vom!! D:
[14:14] Ravelli Ormstein: textures load very slowly today
[14:14] Alexis Radikal (alexzev) looks away and doesn't barf. yet.
[14:14] Martini Discovolante: Thank you, very much, Mr Green! You may get dressed now!
[14:14] Martini Discovolante: seeee---he's OOOOH_KAAAAAY
[14:14] Devnet Caratauc (devnet): Poor froggy
[14:14] Alexis Radikal (alexzev) phews.
[14:14] Vic Mornington: YAY!
[14:14] Linus Lacombe: Now Froggie can go a courtin
[14:15] Martini Discovolante: As you may surmise from all this, Tinies require special sits, animations, and all garments and accessories are attached prims.
[14:15] Nika Thought-werk (robotnika) claps.
[14:15] Daeliah: heehee
[14:15] Caspian Moonstone: YAY, humiliation!
[14:15] Ravelli Ormstein: Mr Harrington
[14:15] Martini Discovolante: (In your Swag Bag, you will find a Tiny Mushroom Seat, created just for this meeting.
[14:15] Martini Discovolante: Decorative in the garden, it will also provide your Tiny, or Tiny Guest with a comfy and cushiony perch. It is Mod/Copy and will serve many different Tinies.) Mr Black is included!
[14:15] Daeliah: ooooo swag
[14:15] Sheryl Skytower: *:-.,_,.-:*'``'*Yayyyyyyy!!!!*:-.,_,.-:*'``'*
[14:15] Pippy: *Falls for that, but the typist is thinking...uhhh, no they just showed us the first picture again*
[14:15] Claymore Macbain: SWAG!!!!!!!
[14:15] Alexis Radikal (alexzev) "borrows" a swag bag.
[14:15] Martini Discovolante: All Tinies are individuals, and want to look like it.
[14:15] Daeliah: YESH
[14:15] Martini Discovolante: Working on this small canvas requires the designer to telegraph their intent by balancing detail and broad strokes without burying the Tiny avatar in the process.
[14:16] Martini Discovolante: Basically, we are decorating prims and applying them to the Tiny's prims, or replacing them entirely (don't worry! any body parts supplanted by clothing are stored safely in the avatar folder!)
[14:16] Martini Discovolante: And--many joys!-- today's Tiny Wynx Avatars have their scripts in the head, and all other body parts are copy/mod. You can even "Rezz, Dress and Rename" limbs separately to assure proper fit when cheering, playing Critter Ball or Jousting.
[14:16] Martini Discovolante: And the new SL Viewer allows multiple items worn on a single attachment point, just use ADD to Current Outfit, ADD, or WEAR and choose the appropriate part.
[14:16] Ceejay Writer: How advanced!
[14:16] Martini Discovolante: Tiny Life is much easier these days!
[14:16] Baldr Wingtips: Lions !
[14:16] Gracie Saint Possum (morganne.darkstone): Yay ADD!!
[14:16] Tepic Harlequin: have to run, thank you!
[14:16] Sheryl Skytower: *head explodes*
[14:16] Sea (sea.warcliffe): we live in wondrous times indeed
[14:16] Martini Discovolante: ADD is teh happinezzz
[14:16] Daeliah: tinies really are magical ?
[14:17] Martini Discovolante: Tiny folk love to dress up, have parties, themed events, and live in many environments. And they love to dress the part.
[14:17] Baron Klaus Wulfenbach is wearing a Discovolante suit.
[14:17] Alexis Radikal (alexzev) gives Sheryl a waffle, it makes it all better.
[14:17] Pippy: Couldn't wear any clothes without Add I don't think. ^^
[14:17] Sheryl Skytower: thankee!
[14:17] Martini Discovolante: My Tiny work is generally in the Costume, Formal and Victorian realm.
[14:17] Sheryl Skytower: ooh... pretty....
[14:17] Ravelli Ormstein is wearing a MD scarf :-)
[14:17] Martini Discovolante: I chose the elements most prone the evoke the era aimed for, and create textures for each prim-portion that needs covering.
[14:17] Daeliah: a bustle like that would totally hide my big bee bum ?
[14:17] Sea (sea.warcliffe): dont forget teh awesome kraken suit !
[14:17] Martini Discovolante: You may recognize my look today as "Dr. (Miss) Ephemera Wirefly, my character in the Primgraph's Graphic Novel, "Quest for the Golden Prim."
[14:18] Martini Discovolante: As a Lady of Science, she sports her own invention, the Cavorite Steam Bustle, and a rather worse-for-wear summer dress. Her travel boots replace the original Tiny legs. And the hair is a modified version of a Biggie Favorite from Matreiya.
[14:18] Ceejay Writer cheers for the Quest!
[14:18] Linus Lacombe: I certainly recognize Dr Wirefly!
[14:18] Baldr Wingtips: where's Crotty ?!
[14:18] Baron Klaus Wulfenbach chuckles
[14:18] Baron Klaus Wulfenbach: That's a good question.
[14:18] Linus Lacombe: Check the wine cellars.
[14:18] Ahnyanka Delphin wanders in and is suddenly afraid to move.. not wanting to crush anyone.
[14:19] Caspian Moonstone: Stay ou of the Urchin wine cellar!!
[14:19] Tanwy Hazelnut knows where Miss Primm is!
[14:19] Ceejay Writer waves and jumps up and down to catch Ahnya's attention.
[14:20] Gracie Saint Possum (morganne.darkstone): I iz awways surprized and happy t'see dat eben in a crowd diz big, no two tinies looks xactly alike
[14:20] Ravelli Ormstein: oh, she crashed
[14:20] Gracie Saint Possum (morganne.darkstone): Look like da teacher crash
[14:20] Vic Mornington: ohhhhhhh dear, shes crashed :(
[14:20] Gracie Saint Possum (morganne.darkstone): L?L
[14:20] Ravelli Ormstein: there!
[14:20] Tanwy Hazelnut: EEEEEEEK!
[14:20] Gracie Saint Possum (morganne.darkstone): wb Martini
[14:20] Ceejay Writer: Welcome back!
[14:20] AetherSalon: Welcome back Martini Discovolante
[14:20] Jimmy Branagh: wb Miss:)
[14:20] Eilidh McCullough: WB
[14:20] Leona Mantarai (lilfae) swipes a cupcake
[14:20] Martini Discovolante: thankees!
[14:21] Solace Fairlady: wb Dean martini!
[14:21] Martini Discovolante: i will need a sec to reset the script
[14:21] Ravelli Ormstein: wb Martini
[14:21] Bookworm Hienrichs: And now Edward go boom.
[14:21] Jimmy Branagh waves to Miss Ahnya
[14:21] Caspian Moonstone: Bawh-ha-ha-ha!!
[14:22] Ravelli Ormstein: 30 agents on region
[14:22] Sheryl Skytower: we iz legion!
[14:22] AetherSalon: Please consider moving across the simline to Academy of Industry side for better balance.
[14:22] Bookworm Hienrichs inches carefully over to the other side.
[14:22] Daeliah: sorry, does that mean just go closer to the board?
[14:22] Little M (littlemystery): Hello whahahawloaheo...
[14:23] AetherSalon: To the east, miss.
[14:23] Bookworm Hienrichs: No, go to the east. Actually away from the screen.
[14:23] Edward Pearse: Academy has Hello Kitty germs
[14:23] Vic Mornington: LMAO
[14:23] Martini Discovolante: Tiny Life is much easier these days!
[14:23] Bookworm Hienrichs snickers.
[14:23] Alexis Radikal (alexzev): Between Gracie and me.
[14:23] Devnet Caratauc (devnet) snorts
[14:23] Martini Discovolante: thinki am reset now!
[14:23] Tanwy Hazelnut giggles
[14:23] Solace Fairlady: the thunder of tiny feet!
[14:23] Martini Discovolante: no more fanci walking around for me!
[14:23] Daeliah: phew I didnt get lost
[14:23] Ceejay Writer: Walking is for crazy people!
[14:23] Devnet Caratauc (devnet): You could try skipping
[14:24] Linus Lacombe: Fancy crazy people
[14:24] Baron Klaus Wulfenbach: No riverdancing until we're ready to crash the sim, bitte.
[14:24] Seraph Timeless: I prefer hopping
[14:24] Martini Discovolante: Tiny folk love to dress up, have parties, themed events, and live in many environments. And they love to dress the part.
[14:24] Martini Discovolante: My Tiny work is generally in the Costume, Formal and Victorian realm.
[14:24] Martini Discovolante: I chose the elements most prone the evoke the era aimed for, and create textures for each prim-portion that needs covering.
[14:24] Martini Discovolante: You may recognize my look today as "Dr. (Miss) Ephemera Wirefly, my character in the Primgraph's Graphic Novel, "Quest for the Golden Prim."
[14:24] Martini Discovolante: As a Lady of Science, she sports her own invention, the Cavorite Steam Bustle, and a rather worse-for-wear summer dress. Her travel boots replace the original Tiny legs. And the hair is a modified version of a Biggie Favorite from Matreiya.
[14:24] Martini Discovolante: The Hairpins are courtesy of Mr Marion Questi, and his amazing particle-abilities.
[14:24] Martini Discovolante: Tiny ladies demand fashion and glamour as much as their Biggie counterparts.
[14:24] Martini Discovolante: Gowns, heels, even faux furs are in high demand, plus eyelashes, and lipstick can be bought in Raglan.
[14:24] Martini Discovolante: Tiny gents tend to be more casual, but many dress the part when in the Steamlands, or on special occasions. Here is the first Tiny outfit i ever made: for the Guv'nah of Caledon, Desmond Shang.
[14:25] Bookworm Hienrichs: ((Might want to slow down a bit. That's a lot of reading.))
[14:25] Martini Discovolante: soz
[14:25] Tanwy Hazelnut: (hairpins? hmmm)
[14:25] Linus Lacombe: Furs in furs
[14:25] Daeliah: is ok I sound out the big words
[14:25] Ravelli Ormstein: wait, it rezzes sloooowly
[14:25] Devnet Caratauc (devnet): Des went tiny?
[14:25] Stereo Nacht: Very nice!
[14:25] Chrono Cogshine (chronometria): cavorite, it lifts and supports
[14:25] Martini Discovolante: Des has had a tiny for years.
[14:25] Vic Mornington: Des has his own Tiny Guards....
[14:25] Devnet Caratauc (devnet): Seriously? How cute!!!
[14:25] Solace Fairlady: YThe Gun Bunnehs
[14:25] Tanwy Hazelnut giggles at the caption
[14:25] Edward Pearse: Gunbunnehs
[14:25] Ravelli Ormstein: now the texture comes, ready now
[14:25] Baron Klaus Wulfenbach: They are experiencing a revival, in fact.
[14:25] Martini Discovolante: he sent me a photo of him Tiny at a meeting with LL :)
[14:26] Steadman Kondor: woot!!
[14:26] Sea (sea.warcliffe): our plans for world domination coming along nicely
[14:26] Martini Discovolante: yus! i became a Gun Bunneh recently!
[14:26] Martini Discovolante: Made for his occasional Tiny self, it is a faithful reproduction off his well-known everyday --and i DO mean EVERY-DAMN-DAY-- Guv-suit :)
[14:26] Nika Thought-werk (robotnika) whispers to her friend "Bunnies need guns to protect us from wolves."
[14:26] Ravelli Ormstein: i know a linden who is always a tine roboter
[14:26] Ravelli Ormstein: *tiny, sorry!!!
[14:26] Vic Mornington: Des dont like changing clothes....rofl
[14:26] Devnet Caratauc (devnet): Are there many wolves in Caledon?
[14:26] Martini Discovolante: nopers!
[14:26] Edward Pearse: Guv still has slider hair :-)
[14:26] Ceejay Writer: I have a Hello Kitty assault rifle. You can find it on the innerwebs.
[14:26] Solace Fairlady: Never does!
[14:27] Devnet Caratauc (devnet) cackles
[14:27] Sheryl Skytower: Once you go tiny, you rarely go back... :)
[14:27] Alexis Radikal (alexzev) is married to a wolf. No guns, please?
[14:27] Gracie Saint Possum (morganne.darkstone): I gotta gun wot shoots lingerie
[14:27] Martini Discovolante: Most often I find myself making new "legs" to complete the outfit. I do believe mine were the first Tiny High heels, and they are still a big hit. Now nearly every outfit I make includes shoes for gents or ladies
[14:27] Daeliah: shoes omg i love shoes
[14:27] Stereo Nacht blushes, as she often goes tiny then back...
[14:27] Martini Discovolante: Makers rejoice! Tinies can wear many of the same accessories Biggies do; they simply need to be repositioned to accommodate Tiny limb placement.
[14:27] Caspian Moonstone: Shoes are a bumer :(
[14:28] Edward Pearse: Hats are good
[14:28] Tanwy Hazelnut: HATS!
[14:28] Leona Mantarai (lilfae): Yes, I did that to my A&A hair
[14:28] Sheryl Skytower: hats iz easy...
[14:28] Martini Discovolante: And we may be TINY, but our heads are big! Kitties are especially notorious for their mammoth melons, (heads that is -- we are talking TINIES here!). Hair and hats may have to be LARGER than on our Human counterparts.
[14:28] Sheryl Skytower: I luv hats!
[14:28] Pippy: I have to resize tiny clothes to fit me!
[14:28] Gracie Saint Possum (morganne.darkstone): I HATEZ moddin' biggie hairz
[14:28] Leona Mantarai (lilfae): Was 10 clicks of a mouse for me
[14:28] Devnet Caratauc (devnet): I hate modding hair period
[14:28] Sheryl Skytower: i haz none... XD
[14:28] Liam Bean ponders the size of his head
[14:28] Martini Discovolante: With such a challenging avatar-type, Tinies are for the most part quite resourceful and adept at adjusting their prims.
[14:28] Martini Discovolante: But I always offer Free Adjustment and Fitting Services, and I must say, they have rarely been requested.
[14:29] Sea (sea.warcliffe): oh yes tinies awesome builders
[14:29] Devnet Caratauc (devnet) flies over and ponders the size of Mr. Beans head as well.
[14:29] Edward Pearse: Tiny! Onna stick!
[14:29] Vic Mornington: LMAO
[14:29] Gracie Saint Possum (morganne.darkstone): L?L
[14:29] Sheryl Skytower: •´¨*•.¸. HahahaA •´¨*•.¸.
[14:29] Kara Kent (kara.timtam): Hallo
[14:29] Leona Mantarai (lilfae): Ooh that looks painful
[14:29] Jimmy Branagh waves to Miss Kara
[14:29] Daeliah: I only just learned how to widen dresses. Apologies for all those I mooned when dancing last week ;)
[14:29] Devnet Caratauc (devnet): Hallo Miss Kara!
[14:29] Vic Mornington: ello Kara
[14:29] Martini Discovolante: that is a dress dummy, my dun-bunneh!
[14:29] Kara Kent (kara.timtam): Sorry to be late, it took me half an hour to find something properly tiny to wear
[14:29] AetherSalon: Welcome Kara Kent
[14:29] Martini Discovolante: welcoem Kara!
[14:29] Martini Discovolante: Most Tinies are excellent Alteration Tailors. (By the way, NEVER use those words to a Tiny Puppy or Kitty!)
[14:30] Kara Kent (kara.timtam) dips a curtsey and trumpets weakly
[14:30] Tanwy Hazelnut giggles
[14:30] Martini Discovolante: An important secret to prim-dressing folks who live in active, yet laggy sims is using "zoned textures":
[14:30] Gracie Saint Possum (morganne.darkstone): finks "alteration" mebbe better dan "fixed"
[14:30] Martini Discovolante: Textures involved in one outfit are organized on a single texture, then carefully placed on the proper prims via positioning windows in the EDIT>texture window.
[14:30] Martini Discovolante: Sounds like a pain, but get it down once, and you will find there are economies of scale. Four textures made, only one needs to rezz! Most outfits require only one or two zoned textures.
[14:31] Martini Discovolante: And instead of placing 4+ textures on the prims, you need place only the one.
[14:31] Martini Discovolante: Raglan Shire hosts regular themed events: Medieval~ including jousts, Rat-on-a-Stick and a plague-wagon, The Wild West, Steampunk, Mardi-Gras,
[14:31] Vic Mornington: rat...on a stick... o.O
[14:31] Sheryl Skytower: wow
[14:31] Devnet Caratauc (devnet): Bring out your dead!
[14:31] Daeliah: wrapped in bacon?
[14:31] Ceejay Writer thinks of bob for some reason.
[14:32] Edward Pearse: Luvs me some medieval fest
[14:32] Stereo Nacht: (Tiny slam poetry every Mondays... ;-D )
[14:32] Bookworm Hienrichs pulls out her Rat Onna Stick.
[14:32] Martini Discovolante: and many other communities have Tiny-centric events, liek our ValenTiny's Day party last year in Caledon Tanglewood
[14:32] Devnet Caratauc (devnet): I have a squirrel on a stick.
[14:32] Ceejay Writer: (lost my stick during the war)
[14:32] Leona Mantarai (lilfae): Or Wootmas! ^-^
[14:32] Martini Discovolante: Pirate Week ~ with a pirate cove and kraken hunt, Prehistoric Days, and --of course-- Halloween, Valentine's and Wootmas events. For a complete calendar, visit www.raglanshire.com/events/
[14:32] Daeliah: I found SL just in time for wootmas ?
[14:32] Vic Mornington: wootmas XD
[14:33] Devnet Caratauc (devnet): The carolers were amazing!
[14:33] Martini Discovolante: and they do keep the WOOT in Wootmas!
[14:33] Tanwy Hazelnut: WOOTMAS!
[14:33] Martini Discovolante: Free vend space is provided on theme areas for creators, and the Creativity Level is pumped up to 11.
[14:33] Tanwy Hazelnut loves her quad reindeer.
[14:33] Sheryl Skytower: 11? more like 111 with all the great stuff!
[14:34] Martini Discovolante: a Squidzillion
[14:34] Linus Lacombe: HOOOOOOOO!!!
[14:34] Stereo Nacht: `*.¸.*´ APPLAUSE `*.¸.*´APPLAUSE `*.¸.*´
[14:34] Daeliah: \o/ Hoooo!
[14:34] Vic Mornington: Dr. Hoooo!
[14:34] Darlingmonster Ember applauds

[14:34] Nika Thought-werk (robotnika): *:-.,_,.-:*'´ `*. HoOoOoO!¸.*´`'*:-.,_,.-:*
[14:34] Martini Discovolante: Being Tiny and Creating for Tinies is a pure joy to me. I am still exploring vehicles, poses and gestures but clothing is my main love.
[14:34] Daeliah: THAT WAS TOTALLY WICKED!!!
[14:34] Capella Teal (capellateal): hoooo
[14:34] Martini Discovolante: Distilling the essence and energy of a genre, and making it resonate on this small canvas is a challenge I relish.
[14:34] Leona Mantarai (lilfae) claps her hands together, gets lots of cupcake crumbs on Chrono in the process.
[14:34] Capella Teal (capellateal): Hooooooooooooooooo!
[14:34] Martini Discovolante: I try to interpret style, create faithful reproductions, and have had a lot of fun taking contemporary clothing beyond the cute, and into Couture.
[14:34] Jimmy Branagh: Hoooo!
[14:34] Martini Discovolante: I thank you all for indulging me this afternoon -- I hope I have given a glimpse into something I love, and that you have been inspired to take a little TIny time yourself!
[14:34] Astari Saiman: :3
[14:34] Baron Klaus Wulfenbach applauds
[14:34] Devnet Caratauc (devnet) applauds!!!!
[14:34] Solace Fairlady: Cu-ture!
[14:34] Liam Bean applauds
[14:34] Devnet Caratauc (devnet): That was wonderful!
[14:34] Jimmy Branagh applauds
[14:34] Chrono Cogshine (chronometria): can we ask questions?
[14:34] Darlingmonster Ember applauds
[14:34] Solace Fairlady Hooooooooos!!!
[14:34] Martini Discovolante: you all were the best audience eva!
[14:34] Ahnyanka Delphin applauds.
[14:35] Jimmy Branagh: Great Salon!
[14:35] Martini Discovolante: With your permission, I will end by showing slides of a few Tiny things I have made while taking any questions you may have.
[14:35] Caspian Moonstone: 8D
[14:35] Solace Fairlady applauds mightily
[14:35] Baron Klaus Wulfenbach: Fraulein Martini, shall we start the Q&A?

[14:35] Gracie Saint Possum (morganne.darkstone): I gotz a giant fat kat sittin' on my keyboard
[14:35] Daeliah: that was lovely
[14:35] Chrono Cogshine (chronometria) raises her hand as she has a question
[14:35] Ravelli Ormstein applauds
[14:35] Steadman Kondor applauds :) fantastic!
[14:35] Gracie Saint Possum (morganne.darkstone): Make it a lil more harder t'make sense
[14:35] Martini Discovolante: asl away!
[14:35] Edward Pearse raises a paw
[14:36] Martini Discovolante: ask rather!
[14:36] Baron Klaus Wulfenbach: Chrono first.
[14:36] Chrono Cogshine (chronometria): I am curious to know how the relationship between hatchies and tinies began, seeing as they are different races and from different places
[14:36] Kara Kent (kara.timtam): ASL in SL, what a concept!
[14:36] Martini Discovolante: oooh-- honestly? i think it was Miss Peaches Latrell's ponies broke the ice!
[14:37] Sea (sea.warcliffe): hatchies and tinies are natural friends IMHO
[14:37] Martini Discovolante: the hatchies loved them.
[14:37] Martini Discovolante: adn after that i becah to see a lot of sharing of cookies and waffles going on.
[14:37] Chrono Cogshine (chronometria) nods
[14:37] Ceejay Writer: Ah yes. the Waffles.
[14:37] Baron Klaus Wulfenbach grins at Fraulein Skytower
[14:37] Martini Discovolante: but that was the first time i saw a lot of hatchiees in Raglan
[14:38] Sheryl Skytower: *innocent grin*
[14:38] Martini Discovolante: oh! and it you like-- visit the Hatchie Haven in Isle of Wyrms... i helped work on it! :)

[14:38] Chrono Cogshine (chronometria): ah yes i know of it, i`m a scholar studying dragons there, thats how i learned of hatchies, thankyou
[14:38] Solace Fairlady: what are \hatchies, a version of Tinies?
[14:38] Baron Klaus Wulfenbach: Sir Edward was next, then Gracie.
[14:38] Alexis Radikal (alexzev): Lickle dragons.
[14:39] Gracie Saint Possum (morganne.darkstone): Hatchies iz lil dwagons
[14:39] Kara Kent (kara.timtam): Sounds like zoomorphic ageplay
[14:39] Edward Pearse: Tiny dragons
[14:39] Nika Thought-werk (robotnika)'s mouth starts to water at the sound of waffles.
[14:39] Martini Discovolante: Mr Pearse?
[14:39] Seraph Timeless raises her itty bitty paw
[14:39] Solace Fairlady: ah ty M Alexzev
