Virtuosity! (Unedited Transcript)

[14:00] Steadman Kondor: good afternoon!
[14:00] Solace Fairlady: Hello professor, Miss Rhiannon
[14:00] Baron Klaus Wulfenbach (klauswulfenbach.outlander): Guten Abend, everyone.
[14:00] Vernden Jervil: Good to see you, has been ages
[14:00] Jimmy Branagh: Ack
[14:00] Glorf Bulmer: Hello!
[14:00] Darlingmonster Ember: ah, welcome Prof and M Jameson
[14:00] Stereo Nacht: Good evneing Miss Bulmer, Miss Jameson, Mr. Bean, Mr. Branagh, and all those whose arrival I have missed!
[14:00] Jimmy Branagh: Palisade just vanished
[14:00] Stereo Nacht: Good day Miss Rosca!
[14:00] Liam Bean: Hello
[14:00] Darlingmonster Ember: hullo M Rosca
[14:01] Tali Rosca rezzes...
[14:01] Solace Fairlady: hello Miss tali
[14:01] Jimmy Branagh: Ah there it is
[14:01] Baron Klaus Wulfenbach (klauswulfenbach.outlander): Palisade does that on occasion.
[14:02] Tali Rosca: Sorry for coming running in at last moment, but an old friend of mine was doing a live gig.
[14:02] Glorf Bulmer smiles: "and what's my excuse?"
[14:03] Steadman Kondor smiles to see friends and fellow citizens
[14:03] Baron Klaus Wulfenbach (klauswulfenbach.outlander): The Time Travellers' Ball has attracted a large crowd, so we may have fewer on hand today.
[14:04] Darlingmonster Ember: Oh, they can hold that anytime
[14:04] Rhianon Jameson: One would think time travelers would have no trouble making simultaneous meetings
[14:04] Darlingmonster Ember: ...sniffs
[14:04] Bookworm Hienrichs chuckles.
[14:04] Baron Klaus Wulfenbach (klauswulfenbach.outlander): Heh.
[14:04] Rhianon Jameson grins at Miss Ember
[14:04] Jimmy Branagh: Thet wos moy thought too
[14:04] Steadman Kondor giggles
[14:05] Baron Klaus Wulfenbach (klauswulfenbach.outlander): Herr Kondor will receive the contents of the tipjar after Questions and Answers at the end of his presentation. Bitte, show your appreciation as you can.
[14:06] Steadman Kondor: Thank you everyone, it is wonderful to see you all here.
[14:06] Steadman Kondor: Firstly I want to thank the Aether Salon for inviting me to speak today.
[14:06] Steadman Kondor: This is definitely going to be a highlight of my second life career as a photographer/artist.
[14:06] Bookworm Hienrichs smiles.
[14:07] Steadman Kondor: Firstly I would like to explain what I titled this talk Virtuosity.
[14:07] Steadman Kondor: ‘Flights of Virtuosity’ is the name I gave to a collection of my SL photography
[14:07] Steadman Kondor: exhibited at the 2010 World Science Fiction convention.
[14:07] Stereo Nacht: (Good day Miss Sidonie!)
[14:07] Steadman Kondor: *Virtuosity* alludes to my artworks' origin in the the virtual world.
[14:08] Steadman Kondor: *Virtuosity* alludes to the notion of virtuoso, the effort and commitment
[14:08] Steadman Kondor: it took to express what was a ‘flight of the imagination’.
[14:08] Steadman Kondor: Lastly, *Virtuosity* also expresses the purity of vision, expression and
[14:08] Steadman Kondor: emotion that I aspire to in my photography. (interchangeably I call them my art)
[14:08] Steadman Kondor: When I was first rezzed in SL, just over four years ago, my Typist had no design
[14:08] Steadman Kondor: qualifications, limited skills and experience. However, since then I have been fortunate
[14:08] Steadman Kondor: enough to enjoy artistic recognition beyond my hopes and wildest expectations:
[14:09] Steadman Kondor: I exhibited alongside Oscar winner artist Shaun Tan at the 2010 World Science-Fiction convention
[14:09] Steadman Kondor: in Melbourne, Australia. The next year, I was accepted by jury to exhibit at the World Fantasy Convention
[14:09] Bookworm Hienrichs whistles.
[14:09] Steadman Kondor: in San Diego alongside professional artists and illustrators.
[14:09] Steadman Kondor: (The guests of honour were Neil Gaiman and Peter S. Beagle).
[14:09] Steadman Kondor: My poster 'Meet Your Muse in New Babbage' won a poster competition
[14:09] Steadman Kondor: organised by Marion Questi and has since been hanging in Caledon Oxbridge.
[14:09] Steadman Kondor: Then Mayor Tenk posed for me in Clockhaven, as part of my secret project,
[14:10] Steadman Kondor: The portrait is there on the right, on the red board
[14:10] Steadman Kondor: a series of avatar portraits titled Unreal Avatar.
[14:10] Rhianon Jameson: Oooh, secrets!
[14:10] Steadman Kondor: He liked the final result so much it is used for his profile pix and
[14:10] Sidonie Ancelin (ancelin): /good day, Ms. Nacht :)
[14:10] Steadman Kondor: the complimentary picture I sent him hangs in City Hall.
[14:10] Steadman Kondor: So much for secret project!
[14:10] Bookworm Hienrichs chuckels.
[14:10] Steadman Kondor: This year, my poster for the Carnivale d'Lunatiques was featured
[14:10] Jimmy Branagh: hehe
[14:10] Steadman Kondor: in the Second Life Editor's destination picks.
[14:10] Steadman Kondor: You might have noticed how many of my highlights are New Babbage connected.
[14:11] Steadman Kondor: I didn’t specifically single out NB highlights.
[14:11] Bookworm Hienrichs vows to fix her typo in the transcript.
[14:11] Steadman Kondor: This is testament to how wonderful this city has been for encouragement and fostering of creativity.
[14:11] Rhianon Jameson laughs and thinks having control of the transcript is an advantage
[14:11] Steadman Kondor claps for New Babbage and the mayor
[14:11] Bookworm Hienrichs: Hear, hear!
[14:11] Steadman Kondor: This talk is an examination and reflection of my journey as an artist,
[14:11] Jimmy Branagh: Yay!
[14:11] Darlingmonster Ember: Huzzah!
[14:12] Steadman Kondor: from novice to recognition, and I hope you will find it an entertaining account.
[14:12] Steadman Kondor: Maybe this will inspire some of the budding artists and photographers
[14:12] Steadman Kondor: to persist and make advancements in their own creative journey.
[14:13] Steadman Kondor: My typist never planned for me to be a graphic artist, when I was born in March, 2008.
[14:13] Steadman Kondor: He has a degree in literature and then later, computer science.
[14:13] Steadman Kondor: His ambition is to be fiction author. SL began as an exciting means
[14:13] Steadman Kondor: of exploring Victorian fantasy, one of the genres he was writing in.
[14:13] Steadman Kondor: Then he discovered steampunk and joined the Steamlands community.
[14:13] Steadman Kondor: Roleplaying as a Victorian Publisher was a natural step.
[14:13] Steadman Kondor: I set up Steadman Kondor Publishing and wrote whimsical Walking Guides (with streetmaps)
[14:13] Steadman Kondor: for Victoriana and Steelhead.
[14:14] Steadman Kondor: My Typist had basic photoshopping and design skills,
[14:14] Steadman Kondor: with only some experience cropping RL photographs
[14:14] Steadman Kondor: and creating profile pictures for Livejournal.
[14:14] Steadman Kondor: After I published the walking guides, I brought out a collection of Robert Burns poetry,
[14:14] Steadman Kondor: From A Mouse To A Louse, which include three poems liberally ‘reinterpreted’ by me.
[14:14] Steadman Kondor: My photography and graphic work was functional from the start.
[14:14] Steadman Kondor: I designed simple business logo’s, book covers and posters for vendorboards.
[14:14] Steadman Kondor: I encourage the budding artists among you to consider creating SL art in terms of ‘solving problems’.
[14:14] Steadman Kondor: This is a concept I am stealing from Isaac Assimov,
[14:15] Steadman Kondor: who when asked about how he wrote, he explained it as lots of thinking and problem solving.
[14:15] Steadman Kondor: (no magic key to writing success_
[14:15] Steadman Kondor: The graphic problems that I worked on solving included:
[14:15] Steadman Kondor: cropping and turning a photo of a sim into a square shape;
[14:15] Steadman Kondor: carefully laying out street names, choosing fonts; choosing contrasting yet complementary colours;
[14:15] Steadman Kondor: and dealing with multiple layers on a photoshop file.
[14:15] Steadman Kondor: 2009 - I was recruited to start Victoriana Times.
[14:15] Steadman Kondor: It was an exciting time, writing and preparing the photographs for five short articles a week.
[14:16] Steadman Kondor: I enjoyed the interaction with residents that being an editor/journalist entailed.
[14:16] Steadman Kondor: (i'm a chatterbox as some of you might know)
[14:16] Steadman Kondor: I had no idea how to make clothes or create animations,
[14:16] Baron Klaus Wulfenbach (klauswulfenbach.outlander) chuckles
[14:16] Steadman Kondor: but I enjoyed taking photographs for events. I dubbed them 'society photographs'.
[14:16] Darlingmonster Ember: grins
[14:16] Steadman Kondor: you know, like socialites snapped going out for the night?
[14:16] Steadman Kondor: No clothesmaking or pose-making required.
[14:17] Darlingmonster Ember: exactly
[14:17] Bookworm Hienrichs nods.
[14:17] Steadman Kondor: The modus operandi were: keep my graphic resolution high,
[14:17] Steadman Kondor: pay attention to all the guests, and
[14:17] Steadman Kondor: zoom in and out looking for the million dollar shot.
[14:17] Steadman Kondor: it's like hunting season!
[14:17] Steadman Kondor: And in the meantime have fun at the event.
[14:17] Rhianon Jameson chuckles
[14:17] Tali Rosca: Aka paparazzi :-P
[14:17] Bookworm Hienrichs: Be vewy, vewy qwiet. I'm snapping socialites.
[14:17] Steadman Kondor: hehe these were at public events!
[14:17] Darlingmonster Ember: grins and glances at Miss Bookworm
[14:17] Jimmy Branagh: Didja stalk anybody?
[14:18] Steadman Kondor: some of them are on the blue/green board to my right, behind miss rosca
[14:18] Steadman Kondor: in the middle row, you see a progression of newspaper cover shots
[14:18] Steadman Kondor: one of my favourite is the one in the middle, which i nickname 'Beauty and the Beast'
[14:18] Steadman Kondor: Sometimes I have been the backup or stand-in for preparing posters advertising social events.
[14:19] Steadman Kondor: But my skills were not up-to-par, and I stood waiting in the wings.
[14:19] Steadman Kondor: But no matter. In addition to my newspaper work, I opened Galerie Eichen.
[14:19] Steadman Kondor: I made replica's of ancient oriental porcelain, and
[14:19] Steadman Kondor: curated an exhibition of Japanese screen prints.
[14:19] Steadman Kondor: Some japanese plate from the Edo period, and also Song and Ming dynast vases
[14:20] Steadman Kondor: I exhibited the works of Caspar David Friedrich,
[14:20] Steadman Kondor: and turned it into an SL book by mashing (a modern DJ term) it with the poetry of Emily Bronte.
[14:20] Bookworm Hienrichs chuckles.
[14:20] Steadman Kondor: In a way it is reusing, but I thought it was fun to cross polinate one project with another
[14:20] Steadman Kondor: I was thrilled to curate the artworks (scenic and nude series) of Miss Tali Rosca,
[14:20] Steadman Kondor: Whom I'm glad to see with us here
[14:21] Tali Rosca curtseys.
[14:21] Steadman Kondor: Her nudes in particular were inspiring in how they showed dramatic shadow work,
[14:21] Bookworm Hienrichs smiles at Ms. Rosca.
[14:21] Steadman Kondor: before Viewer 2 even
[14:21] Steadman Kondor: renaissance cat skilled in the graphical arts, building, mesh-making and the highest calibre scripting.
[14:21] Steadman Kondor: (that's miss rosca)
[14:21] Steadman Kondor: Later on, when Miss Rosca joined me in Caledon Mayfair,
[14:21] Steadman Kondor: she would advise me on finer technical points of graphic design
[14:21] Steadman Kondor: as I finished my first mature art works.
[14:22] Steadman Kondor: From her I learned to focus on the composition and cropping,
[14:22] Steadman Kondor: and the harmonising of colours.
[14:22] Steadman Kondor: In the meantime, I had a new project developing low prim Victorian houses from RL pictures in my Typist’s neighbourhood.
[14:22] Steadman Kondor: My photoshopping skills were expanded as I doctored the photographs before they were uploaded them to SL.
[14:23] Steadman Kondor: Some of these townhouses are in miss panacea's new york sims
[14:23] Steadman Kondor: She bought 10 of them but i never put them out to the market
[14:23] Steadman Kondor: By 2010 I had a quarter sim in Caledon Mayfair.
[14:23] Steadman Kondor: I built a town hall to display art and sculptures, but I had little original art.
[14:23] Steadman Kondor: My best works, the society photographs, didn’t cut the mustard for a town hall exhibition.
[14:23] Steadman Kondor: Traffic was low and later I left the idea. For the New Babbage RFL, Wishing Oil Well theme,
[14:23] Steadman Kondor: I volunteered and built a replica of the Carrington Mooring Tower for airships.
[14:24] Steadman Kondor: This is to give an idea how I interspersed building with photography
[14:24] Steadman Kondor: but to convey that a lot of skills in my art, i had developed through solving building texture problems
[14:24] Steadman Kondor: In May 2010, a creative watershed happened.
[14:24] Steadman Kondor: I started to work on several horror-themed compositions which came to be exhibited
[14:24] Steadman Kondor: at the 2010 World Science Fiction convention.
[14:24] Steadman Kondor: Two of these are on the green board.
[14:24] Steadman Kondor: Two of these are My Paper Cranes and Walpurgisnacht Dance (incidentally originating from an SL event).
[14:25] Baron Klaus Wulfenbach (klauswulfenbach.outlander) grins
[14:25] Steadman Kondor: My papercranes was inspired by an SL asylum sim, very spooky
[14:25] Tali Rosca: I have always considered the Crane series a standout.
[14:25] Steadman Kondor: Walpurgisnacht dance you might recognise Mr Eclipse and Miss Elladriene Laval
[14:26] Bookworm Hienrichs nods.
[14:26] Jimmy Branagh: ((I have one in my house. Fits the decor perfectly :) ))
[14:26] Steadman Kondor: Mr Otenth Paderborn was somewhere in the b/ground, and I surgically removed him
[14:26] Rhianon Jameson: Poor guy. :)
[14:26] Steadman Kondor: This is an example of how during an event, you can get stills of av's in motion, that seems
[14:26] Bookworm Hienrichs laughs.
[14:26] Steadman Kondor: more spontaneous than in a posed picture
[14:27] Steadman Kondor: Towards the end of 2010, my Typist visited Tokyo and Kyoto.
[14:27] Steadman Kondor: When he returned, I set up the Tokaido Gallery in Steelhead Shanghai to host the RL pictures.
[14:27] Steadman Kondor: I applied different stylistic touches to them with skills learned from manipulating SL photographs.
[14:27] Steadman Kondor: (and building in SL)
[14:27] Steadman Kondor: I also shot some Japanese themed photographs in the SL Kyoto to add to the exhibition.
[14:28] Steadman Kondor: The combination of the japanese teahouse build, and the RL and SL pictures,
[14:28] Steadman Kondor: and the media of music and videos... makes this i think my most complete SL project to date
[14:28] Roberto Couturier: thank you
[14:28] Steadman Kondor: I hope to aspire to this in future exhibitions, combining the art and gallery build, and other media
[14:29] Roberto Couturier: could we have a chair for sara please
[14:29] Tali Rosca: It takes a lot of work to make such "all-round" projects.
[14:29] Baron Klaus Wulfenbach (klauswulfenbach.outlander): One moment.
[14:29] Steadman Kondor: In Mayfair I had explored the notion of a ruined watermill build being the venue to
[14:30] Steadman Kondor: exhibit paintings of a gothic theme too
[14:30] Sara Calcutt: thank you
[14:30] Steadman Kondor: If I may refer you to the picture of the dancing Maiko at the back on the green board
[14:30] Steadman Kondor: Some of my art is highly processed and filtered, and
[14:31] Steadman Kondor: a lot of posing, avatar design and doctoring. Sometimes I am happy with just a simple spontaneous shot
[14:31] Steadman Kondor: here I captured my friend Mimi-san dancing
[14:31] Steadman Kondor: Her wonderful outfit and appearance is the centre of attention here, and her graceful hand placement
[14:31] Steadman Kondor: Also the lantern on the top right, as delicate and pretty as her.
[14:32] Steadman Kondor: If I were to list some of the technical photoshopping skills used in my art,
[14:32] Steadman Kondor: it would be as follows:
[14:32] Steadman Kondor: Can you manipulate light/contrast to properly define your subject?
[14:32] Steadman Kondor: Can you correct colour saturation or
[14:32] Steadman Kondor: use it to effect to unify colour schemes not in harmony?
[14:32] Steadman Kondor: Can you crop a raw shot for an interesting composition?
[14:32] Steadman Kondor: Sometimes I can take up to 100 shots for one picture
[14:33] Steadman Kondor: Can you perform pixel surgery? Repair, combine two graphics seamlessly?
[14:33] Steadman Kondor: Stretch and distort or straighten...?
[14:33] Steadman Kondor: For printing to RL, a whole heap of new challenges come in -
[14:33] Rhianon Jameson doesn't envy Mr. Kondor's hard drive
[14:33] Steadman Kondor: photographing raw shots with high resolution, correcting pixellation bugs,
[14:33] Steadman Kondor: The SL viewer used to have a bug depicting water with higher than 3000 pixel length resolution
[14:34] Steadman Kondor: I think that is fixed now - I always ran into problems then with landscapes
[14:34] Steadman Kondor: adjusting exposure to address the translation of a screen image to printed.
[14:34] Steadman Kondor: the screen is always illuminated, while in RL lighting in a gallery room can vary
[14:34] Steadman Kondor: Sometimes it is very poor
[14:34] Steadman Kondor: Outside of photoshop skills, as an artist, you need to have an inquisitive mind
[14:34] Steadman Kondor: to investigate your subjects and areas of interest.
[14:35] Steadman Kondor: For me it helps that as a writer, I can overlay a picture with themes and meanings
[14:35] Steadman Kondor: That you dont necessarily need to know to appreciate , but it could be there as a subconscious message
[14:35] Steadman Kondor: You also need to have good avatar design skills
[14:35] Steadman Kondor: not only for the runway model perfection of male and female beauty,
[14:35] Tali Rosca: I very often use music as inspiration or guiding mood/theme.
[14:36] Steadman Kondor: I do sometimes too! I find it does infuse the picture with the mood
[14:36] Steadman Kondor: but also for character and variety.
[14:36] Steadman Kondor: I have Miss Rosca as my friend and mentor.
[14:36] Steadman Kondor: She is very good at pointing out defects my artwork that I have overlooked.
[14:36] Steadman Kondor: Sometimes I dread showing things to her unless I'm very very brave
[14:36] Steadman Kondor: I also have my good friend nichus Bermann, who offers honesty and enthusiasm in his feedback.
[14:36] Steadman Kondor: Being a writer who has participated in critique workshops, I have learned to take all feedback,
[14:37] Steadman Kondor: good and bad, and trust my own judgment on how to act on them.
[14:37] Steadman Kondor: You cant please everyone, and the most important is to please yourself...
[14:37] Steadman Kondor: Your friends may mostly say nice things, so it is good to balance that with critics who can give impartial feedback.
[14:37] Steadman Kondor: Thank you for your attention. I am ready to take questions now.
[14:37] Jimmy Branagh applauds
[14:37] Bookworm Hienrichs applauds!
[14:37] Rhianon Jameson applauds
[14:37] Darlingmonster Ember applauds
[14:37] Sidonie Ancelin (ancelin) applauds
[14:38] Vernden Jervil applauds
[14:38] Steadman Kondor: Perhaps there might be a painting from the board you'dlike me to discuss further, and that's okay too
[14:38] Glorf Bulmer applauds
[14:38] Roberto Couturier: APPLAUSE!!!!
[14:38] Jimmy Branagh: Good talk!
[14:38] Solace Fairlady applauds enthusiastically
[14:38] Darlingmonster Ember: well done
[14:38] Baron Klaus Wulfenbach (klauswulfenbach.outlander): Danke for your generous appreciation.
[14:38] Darlingmonster Ember: very nice presentation
[14:38] Bookworm Hienrichs raises her hand for a question.
[14:38] Steadman Kondor: Yes, miss hienrichs?
[14:39] Bookworm Hienrichs: How did you pick up your more technical skills--for instance, in Photoshop? Trial and error? More formal classes? Tips from people you know?
[14:39] Steadman Kondor: I'm not embarressed to say I use a paired down version of Photoshop, lol
[14:39] Darlingmonster Ember: 'paired down'?
[14:40] Bookworm Hienrichs: Photoshop Elements?
[14:40] Steadman Kondor: First there was photoshop deluxe, and then elements
[14:40] Bookworm Hienrichs chuckles. "I've got Elements, too. Still don't know a lot about it, though."
[14:40] Steadman Kondor: I have found them intuitive. and Ocassionally i refer to the web help
[14:40] Steadman Kondor: I learned them gradually though, over nearly 4 years
[14:40] Jimmy Branagh: You might consider GIMP as well. I use it more than I do PS.
[14:41] Steadman Kondor: So just spending time to play with each new feature is good for the long run.
[14:41] Steadman Kondor: Things that proved useful were the template cookie cutting
[14:41] Steadman Kondor: also the brushes ...
[14:41] Bookworm Hienrichs smiles wryly.
[14:42] Steadman Kondor: I might take an official photoshop class one day ( i am lazy...) but elements is more than enough at the present
[14:42] Steadman Kondor: and it is only one of other important aspects of creating SL art
[14:42] Steadman Kondor: the most important is feeling
[14:42] Tali Rosca: Have you (in some projects) deliberately tried to emulate a certain style or artist? Or are you always going with your own vision?
[14:42] Glorf Bulmer raises a hand.
[14:42] Steadman Kondor: and to really know and love your subject
[14:43] Steadman Kondor: I cant say anything comes to mind miss rosca, but i do visit galleries a lot, especially when i am on holidays
[14:43] Steadman Kondor: the japanese prints really inspired me too - their simplicity
[14:43] Teapot Mk 2: Have some tea.
[14:43] Bookworm Hienrichs nods.
[14:43] Steadman Kondor: william blake perhaps is an influence as well
[14:43] Steadman Kondor: noting that he isa poet as well as illustrator/artist
[14:43] Steadman Kondor: miss bulmer?
[14:44] Glorf Bulmer: How important do you consider the uniquecreative possibilities of SL itslef? The abilitiy to construct settings in a way which is, as they say, Not Possible in RL?
[14:44] Steadman Kondor: well i have some art of gargoyles.. lol
[14:44] Steadman Kondor: and also in the Unreal Avatar series
[14:44] Steadman Kondor: you see the one of the Mayor and Miss rosca,
[14:45] Steadman Kondor: my goal is to explore the boundaries of real/unreal with the avatars
[14:45] Steadman Kondor: to balance the humanity and character of the avatar, with the fact that it is an illusion
[14:45] Steadman Kondor: (the mesh lines)
[14:45] Steadman Kondor: certainly with avatar design, you can transcend what's possible in RL
[14:46] Tali Rosca doesn't really need to be in wireframe to be not-possible-in-RL :-)
[14:46] Steadman Kondor: It is possible i do more 3d types of art in the future. Stay tuned to this space :)
[14:46] Darlingmonster Ember: grins
[14:46] Bookworm Hienrichs chuckles.
[14:46] Baron Klaus Wulfenbach (klauswulfenbach.outlander): I'll free up prims.
[14:46] Glorf Bulmer nods: "one of the things that always interested me about SL art was the big installation builds, wehre you are *inside* the artwork and can interact with the artists imagination... internally, as it werer."
[14:47] Steadman Kondor: Yes, that kind of art inspires me too
[14:47] Steadman Kondor: I enjoy machinima, but i tend to enjoy the stills, and the big installation builds more, as a general
[14:47] Steadman Kondor: but also there is the philosophy that less is more
[14:47] Steadman Kondor: sometimes with just a few elements, you can suggest an entire world and culture
[14:48] Steadman Kondor: just like with a poem, you can suggest an entire univere
[14:48] Steadman Kondor: *universe
[14:48] Darlingmonster Ember: mmmmm
[14:48] Steadman Kondor: and it's all in the viewer's mind!
[14:48] Steadman Kondor: you do all the wonderful / hard work
[14:48] Tali Rosca: Yet your pictures seem to be fairly "complete".
[14:48] Tali Rosca: Not fragments the viewer then have to reconstruct and interpret.
[14:49] Steadman Kondor: perhaps
[14:49] Steadman Kondor: but your completion of the world may be different to mine, or others?
[14:50] Glorf Bulmer: But, to some extent, the viewer's interpretive mind is always a factor - Jorge Luis Borges used to say that the reader was just as important as the writer....
[14:50] Steadman Kondor: but i'm glad you find them so
[14:50] Steadman Kondor: or roland barthes = the author is dead
[14:50] Steadman Kondor: but hehe i'm not dead yet!
[14:50] Baron Klaus Wulfenbach (klauswulfenbach.outlander) chuckles
[14:50] Rhianon Jameson: Mr. Borges was a smart cookie.
[14:51] Steadman Kondor: any more questions?
[14:51] Tali Rosca: Given that I have seen the avatar Mr. Kondor wore for a recent shoot, I am not so sure...
[14:51] Steadman Kondor: oh.. zombie grandma...
[14:51] Jimmy Branagh: hehe
[14:51] Steadman Kondor: would anyone like to see zombie grandma?
[14:51] Jimmy Branagh: Sure!
[14:51] Sidonie Ancelin (ancelin): Yes, please
[14:51] Baron Klaus Wulfenbach (klauswulfenbach.outlander): Heh.
[14:52] Glorf Bulmer: I for one would be thrilled.
[14:52] Steadman Kondor: haha not on me
[14:52] Steadman Kondor: on the red board...
[14:52] Steadman Kondor: it's something more recent i've worked on
[14:52] Steadman Kondor: a bit more gruesome
[14:52] Darlingmonster Ember: ah
[14:53] Steadman Kondor: my favourite commentary on this is, "I made the doily"
[14:53] Darlingmonster Ember: ha
[14:53] Baron Klaus Wulfenbach (klauswulfenbach.outlander): You have disappointed them, Herr Kondor.
[14:53] Baron Klaus Wulfenbach (klauswulfenbach.outlander) grins
[14:53] Tali Rosca: Oh, I see you changed the pose!
[14:53] Steadman Kondor: I'm interested to hear whether ppl see this as a depressing or uplifting picture...
[14:53] Darlingmonster Ember: the cat lived.... uplifting
[14:54] Steadman Kondor: i think i have a lot of feeling for the subject, it's been in my mind a long time. Sl allowed me to express it
[14:54] Steadman Kondor: and say so much without a single word
[14:54] Steadman Kondor: The cat lived, but loves the owner so much, cant bear to feast on her
[14:54] Glorf Bulmer recalls Robert Bloch....
[14:54] Steadman Kondor: see also how the painting is lightly glowing
[14:55] Steadman Kondor: a photoshop effect, and also a separate prim
[14:55] Steadman Kondor: which allows you to zoom in with more detail
[14:55] Steadman Kondor: the painting within the painting i mean
[14:55] Tali Rosca: That is actually a curious idea I'll have to work with now!
[14:55] Steadman Kondor: The inclusion of the room corner is something I learned from Miss rosca for perspective
[14:55] Tali Rosca: A smaller prim inside each version, so you can zoom deeper and deeper.
[14:56] Steadman Kondor: There are many ways of exploring this technique,
[14:57] Steadman Kondor: For the recent carnivale photo comp, i used it for the Seeres Tarot card as well, a recursive tarot image
[14:57] Tali Rosca: It would also be fairly obvious to do in a 3D build.
[14:57] Steadman Kondor: nods, but not obvious to the viewer
[14:57] Tali Rosca: Though I guess people could easily get lost in the non-detailed parts of the space, then.
[14:58] Steadman Kondor: I think we might be drawing to closing time soon
[14:58] Steadman Kondor: I want to say how much I appreciate all of you attending
